I'm sat watching the news about Bin Laden and have a terrible feeling that the revenge attacks are being planned right now? The scenes from the states of people cheering is sending a shiver down my spine..

I don't like the cheering however I do wonder if we'd have done the same if it had been London under attack and not New York, maybe not, we're a funny old lot.

I don't think we can judge the US though. It wasn't us,our nation or our fear, shock, horror or grief and maybe we're just different in how we respond to things.

In the US there seems to be a misguided belief that Bin Laden was a leader - they seem not to fully appreciate the viral nature of terrorism and feel it is just led by one figure head.

MY DH AND WERE JUST HAVING THE VERY SAME CONVERSATION, while he needed bringing to justice, this could be just the begining. He was more of a symbolic leader -in later years - than an active commander, i find it hard to believe that there are no plans for a revenge attack in the instance of him being killed/ captured by the west

as for his buriel, as a muslim(although an extremist, and as far removed from a true muslim as you can get) he shouod be buried within twenty four hrs of death,

was it him? surely a DNA profile was carried out before announcing his death to the world?

Stop it all of you. You're scaring me.

Um London did get attacked! 7/7

7/7!!!!!!

We don't know the circumstances of his death - no doubt his guards would have been shooting at the US soldiers and maybe that was the only option under the circs. Imo better that he is shot dead than incarcerated for years then paraded in front of the Hague, tried etc with all the ensuing media circus... I think that would have heightened emotions and would have drawn out the inevitable.

Dreading the backlash ... although he wasn't the operational leader of Al Qaeda, he was a symbolic and philosophical head, seen by many as the father of modern islamic extremism. Sad

how have they managed to do a DNA test? How did they have a reference to check against?

I know London did but I'm referring to that particular day and that particular attack which lead to this. Basically I'm just saying grief is grief,people/nations respond in different ways and maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge a nation/crowds celebrating.
