This is sort of related to the other BM thread but that seems to have degenerated. But a couple of observations has really touched a nerve with me.
Apparently at least one of the BMs at the RW normally wears glasses (it was suggested she was squinting because she was having difficulty seeing).
Why is this? How bad is her eyesight? Surely it was not fair to deprive her of an aid she needed to see just because someone decided it would ruin her look?
I was also strongly pressured into ditching my glasses when I was a BM at the age of 12, and I struggled to see due to severe myopia & astigmatism - my glasses are the first thing I put on when I wake up in the morning and the last thing to come off at night.
I suffered years of bullying because wearing glasses (especially having to wear those horrible NHS specs) made me an easy target.
I was convinced growing up that wearing glasses made me ugly Sad

not l....exotropia

squeakytoy · 01/05/2011 21:16

You do realise that rumours are just that, rumours, and that nobody actually knows the truth other than the parents and family, who quite obviously would NOT have wasted their time in speaking to the media.

Southcoastsarah · 01/05/2011 21:17

she didnt look squinty to me, just miserable

meditrina · 01/05/2011 21:20

I think they were referring to two of the bridesmaids; one of whom (apparently) wears glasses but wasn't wearing them for the public parts of the day, and another who has a type of squint - which I didn't notice at all until pointed out.

saffy85 · 01/05/2011 21:21

Maybe Lady Louise didn't want to wear her glasses that day? She may have refused to wear them because she wanted to be like the other girls.

As squeakytoy said these are rumours. This little girl is rarely photographed so how do we know she always wears glasses? She may not need them all day everyday.

LadyKaraStarbuckofThrace · 01/05/2011 21:24

That is why I hoped it wasn't true!

Thanks for clearing it up. Just hot a nerve because of what happened to me.

Sorry I wasn't refering to Lady Louise, I was taking about Grace Van Cutsem.

she may only wear them for reading/school work. We don't know.
'Surely it was not fair to deprive her of an aid she needed to see just because someone decided it would ruin her look?'
Massive assumption made there OP

LadyKaraStarbuckofThrace · 01/05/2011 21:30

Not from where I was standing when I was a BM!

saffy85 · 01/05/2011 21:31

Blush sorry I knew Lady Louise had a squint or something wasn't aware of the other little girl (she is adorable!) needing glasses.

I suppose it might have explained why she looked a bit fed up at times if she was struggling to see. Not that I blame her. bet she was up at the crack of dawn. Then there would have been a lot of waiting around, constant reminders about good behaviour, wearing an uncomfortable dress and millions of people making loads of noise. She behaved alot better than my own 3 year old would have done in that situation. As did all the other children.

LadyKaraStarbuckofThrace · 01/05/2011 21:32

Yep I dread to think how my 3yo would have behaved!! It was a long day for them.

cannot believe that they are getting criticism for whether bm's should have been wearing glasses or not! How many out there would not have used little ones with 'defects' because they might spoil the pictures. The fact that Wills used the daughter of an uncle who tried to sell stories of him to his tv company speaks wonders for his toleranace and forgiveness. Yes the 2 little bm were not physically perfect but they were delightful and must have loved being involved.

FabbyChic · 01/05/2011 21:56

She has an operation to correct that condition when she was 3.

c0rn51lk · 01/05/2011 22:10

This is yet another thread discussing a child's appearance - not nice despite the OP's intentions. Her parents may well be reading this.

kaiteysmumma · 01/05/2011 22:22

Surely the bridesmaids were chosen because of their relationship to Kate and William, and that they wanted them to be part of their wedding day, not for their appearance?

When I got married, I chose the little girls I loved most in the world, not because I thought they'd look good in the photos. I obviously don't know Kate and William personally, but I can't imagine that they would choose their bridesmaids based purely on their looks?

GertieWooster · 01/05/2011 22:51

adorable with glasses

this is Grace van Cutsem attending the rehearsal at the Abbey. I think she is delightful but I have to say that it would never occur to me to ask my son to take his glasses off. Although none of us know the circs of course

littleducks · 01/05/2011 22:56

I think it is all speculation. There are pictures of Grace as a bridesmaid at least one other, possibly two wedding without glasses. DD wears glasses sometimes as do alot of other small children the optician reassured me they are often prescribed as part time while the children are little.

catsareevil · 01/05/2011 23:04

She does look cute with the glasses Smile

PinkToeNails · 01/05/2011 23:16

I can't see anything wrong with her appearance. I really can't see where all these nasty comments are coming from. To me, she just looks like a cute little girl.
