to expect B&Q to be more helpful?

I recently got the Carisbrooke kitchen in cream from B&Q, disappointingly it scratched quite easily and I contacted B&Q re touch up paint. They emailed back to say their suppliers do not have any and for me to get a match from a Dulux chart! I sent a brief email back to suggest that this is something B&Q could possibly do as I don't think I will be the only person who will require a touch up paint (and I am sure it is easier for them to match it than me) and they quite curtly directed me to their original response. No help there then! So, should B&Q have identified the paint colour and if not does anyone know which colour is the best match?

The least they could have done was to tell you the original paint colour. Some places just aren't good with after sales services and I'm afraid once they have your money its case closed on their part. The problem is it could cost you in terms of your time and possibly money if it costs to constantly call them about this one problem. Perhaps email them stipulating that you want to know the colour, but other than that you may find it quite frustrating. Have you tried visiting the store that you purchased it from, unless it was purchased online?

Recently bought a Cooke and Lewis kitchen from B and Q and it was a complete debacle from start to finish. We are no longer friends!

shakey1500 · 01/05/2011 21:27

biffandchip- I work at B&Q so I'll make some enquiries for you. I'm not in till Tuesday mind but I'll see what I can find out.

:)

B&Q are not in my good books either. Their Trade Point thing not delivering stuff the day they said for DH's job meant he had to work all of Friday until 8pm and now all tomorrow to stop his job running over into the next project. Totally stuffed our bank holiday.

PeterSpanswick · 01/05/2011 21:53

Sorry Shakey! Grin

My nightmare began when the designer estimated the widths of the island incorrectly and then refused to acknowledge there was a problem - we had to go back into store to pretty much argue with him and demonstrate that the curved cupboards would actually be sticking out from under the worksurface if we stuck to the measurents he had put on our order.

Then the correctly sized surface was out of stock for six weeks, various deliveries cancelled and items left off the order e.t.c. so the actual fitting took an age in bit parts and we now have the original island top in the corner of our kitchen after two failed attempts to get the guys to come and pick it up!

On the plus side it looks lovely!

B & Q are a bit bag of shite - with trolleys.

smoggii · 01/05/2011 22:52

B&Q grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm currently having a ruck with B&Q who sold (and fitted) a bathroom which was then discontinued. Comes with a 2 year warranty - piece of crap falling apart already and B&Q can't get spare parts because it's discontinued...not happy!

So yes, they should be more helpful but they are crud!

TheDailyWail · 01/05/2011 22:57

Very bad on the refund front too.

shakey1500 · 03/05/2011 19:55

OP- have pm'd you.

Apologies on behalf of B&Q for all those who've had problems. As much as I can as a checkout operator that is :)

northerngirl41 · 03/05/2011 20:03

I always find B&Q staff really super helpful.

If you're buying a kitchen with kids around surely you practised throwing stuff at it, drawing on it etc before buying? We actually have flameproof kitchen counters after a small accident... The guys were a bit Hmm but humoured me none the less. In fact they recommended another supplier who they didn't stock.

shakey1500 · 05/05/2011 23:35

Hi, I've spoken to the showroom people in my store and this is what they have suggested. It 's a bit of a pain but if you can take a drawer front in then the paint "computer" (or "eye" as it's called) can scan the drawer front to come up with the best matched paint. Carisbrook is an Italian Company and their surfaces will have been spray painted many times over the wood so there isn't, as such, a single product that will cover it identically but you should be able to get as close as you can.

Hope that helps.

Hi, I appreciate this is an old thread but would be interested to know whether the op had any success. We too have a carisbrooke kitchen and at six months old the paint is rubbing off ... Not toddler inflicted as one of the worst areas is a wall cupboard which has had nothing more than a soft duster flicked over it once a week. Nothing but disaster from day one of the fit, the designer planned the workto joint through the middle of the sink (!) and the surveyor failed to spot it along with numerous other problems which caused a complete redesign and lots of delay. The fitter rushed the job and all the finish is Poor as a result.

Got b and q coming this week to look at the blown worktop joint, the badly sealed sink, dripping tap, wonky cupboard frames, poor paint and lifting floor trim. Oh, and the drawer fronts which don't fit flush so you can see daylight through the drawer and small items fall through!

Did you get any touch up paint and did it work? I'm askingb and q to replace the affected doors and frames but I notice the kitchen isn't in latest catalogue and presumably it will keep happening! So v v disappointed it wasn't a cheap kitchen. And are your frames for the doors all level with each other? We have a kind of stepped effect.

hi I totally agree with all the messages regarding Clarisbrook Ivory kitchen.

B and Q doors arrived most were damaged and had to be replaced.

May I ask did anybody manage to obtain the clarisbrook ivory touch up paint.

I know all the messages are old, but perhaps somebody could help.

I am writing after Easter to the CEO of the company with my many complaints. thanks joan
