To think this is a legitimate scrabble move?

dh says not and called me a 'cheating scrabble whore'! Just because I beat him as usual!

Basically, the word 'tale' was already placed horizontally so vertically I placed the word 'best' making 'tale' into 'tales' and as best was on a triple word score I got 32 points!

Is this a legitimate move or was ibu to Place it?

Are you sure you get the points for the plural?

RustyBear · 01/05/2011 08:10

If it was the triple word in the middle of the bottom of the board, the B would have been on a double letter score, so Best would score 27 and Tales 5 so the OP would be right

Goldberry · 01/05/2011 08:11

Of course it's a legitimate Scrabble move! You can add anything on the end of a word like that, as long as it still makes a real word.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/05/2011 08:11

You definitely get the points for the plural. If there is a double, I can rest easy!

RustyBear · 01/05/2011 08:17

Would also work in the bottom right corner, but not in the middle of the right hand side, where you would need a five letter word to get the B on double and still reach the triple.

We allow plurals ourselves - wasn't sure if they aren't officially allowed though.

Is there also a rule about not having s on the end of a verb as well? As in 'reads' or 'writes'? I'm sure that's a rule in some word games but not sure if it's scrabble. We don't use that rule anyway, we basically allow anything apart from proper nouns.

Tee2072 · 01/05/2011 08:49

here are the rules. Nothing about plurals. Or what the OP did.

Atwaroverscrabble · 01/05/2011 08:55

Yes! The b was on the double letter score too! Thank you!! Yay!!

My BF wontplay me at scrable since I kicked his arse three times in a row. Sore loser.

Oh, and I too get accused of cheating. We are playing on iPad and I will sometimes try a word based on the fact the letters could/should make a word having no idea if it is a word or what it means. The iPad will reject non-words but the fact that I don't know what the word is or means does not go down well!!!

moogster1a · 01/05/2011 10:09

dzo!!! try that and watch him tip the board over

TiggyD · 01/05/2011 10:24

YANBU
You need to learn all the 2 letter words. It makes it easier to place words alongside ones already played. Mu, nu, pi, xi, el, es, em, oh, ax, aa and so on. If you can get the X on a triple letter score in 2 directions you can get over 50 points for a 2 letter word.
Try to keep your rack in good order too. Get rid of awkward letters and have a good mix of vowels and consonants.
And don't leave inviting places to score like you soon to be ex-husband did.

I have to say, if he doesn't know this is a legitimate move, I don't see how you can get through a whole game together. How does he ever manage to put any tiles down?
