Sorry for posting in this category but i know it is the busiest! I have a mle on my chest which started to change when i became pregnant a year ago. The doctor told me to keep an eye and over the last week it seems to have grown about 2mm and now has a red spot. The doc said to go back and see him in a month and I am really worried as there is a 3 month waiting list to see a dermatologist at our hospital so that would mean 4 months!

I had 14 removed from my head!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 30/04/2011 21:21

My Gp removed one from my face for me after it started changing, it grew back (within a couple of weeks) so it was done again (by the same gp).

If you are not happy and want it gone see another GP

absolutely no point in taking chances it is such a small procedure.

DorisIsAPinkDragon - was it malignant?

keep photos & go back to GP if it is worrying you that much.

My moles also changed during pregnancy but have settled back down now - the GP did say that they usually do.

HarrietJones · 30/04/2011 21:54

Ive had loads removed, one was malignant. Some were done at GPs & some by dermatology. GP ones have left neater scars Hmm. all of the hospital ones were seen under 2 week rule then triaged to decide how urgent they were.
Most recent one wasn't urgent but a month from initial appt to removal

cantpooinpeace · 30/04/2011 22:08

Spaniel how did they do that?

Punkatheart · 30/04/2011 22:17

I have had one removed. I was lucky enough to work for a path lab and I had insurance as part of my job. They sent me to a consultant in Harley Street. It would have been £600! But it was quick and came back benign. I am sure that you could have it done quickly if you went privately. My father in law died of a malignant melanoma - they did a wider excision but sadly it had already spread. It was quick but he was a smoker and had a stressful lifestyle - plus a childhood in the sun in a very hot country.

Try not to worry - it does sound as if the pigment has changed with pregnancy - your GP is simply being thorough.

Hope all is well.

A few of my moles have been removed. Two of them were tumours but not cancerous. They did grow and I was only around 3 when the first one had to be taken out. My mum told me the dermatologist said that if I would be older he would be sure it was cancer.

I now have to go get al of my moles checked every year. It's like a strip down search Wink
One was removed in January. It was really dark and while it didn't grow my dermatologist had been telling me that I have to keep a very close eye on it for 2 years. I was simply too scared to keep it!

They class me to be 'at risk' even though I am only 23 and I was told to definitely come as soon as possible if anything changes in any of my moles. SO definitely don't wait if it is changing now! It might be harmless, sometimes they do just seem to change etc but get it checked out properly. Waiting and not taking changes serious is the worst thing about skin cancer. So to put your mind at ease and to be sure you are healthy tell your GP you want to be referred. NOW. If he doesn't want to ask an other GP! It can be quite serious and you really don't want to take any risks.

The operation itself is painless, it's just a bit sore afterwards. Just in case you are worried about that, it really is an easy procedure. I had my last one removed under GA because of personal reasons (and bad positioning of the mole, on my breast) and even that was over and done with in a day. Under local you would be back out in about an hour.

Please don't take a risk!

I've had a mole removed on my back, that wouldn't stop itching - it wasn't a melanoma, but everyone was nice to me and no one made me feel I'd been making a fuss about nothing. The operation was quick and painless.

But also, a friend had one on her neck that went crusty and itchy, then while she was having it investigated it dropped off and there was no problem. So that can happen.

Isthreetoomany · 30/04/2011 22:33

I've had an itchy mole and was referred under the 2 week wait rule. The mole was fine in the end, though they photographed it and I did have to go back to the hospital a few months later so they could check it hadn't grown.

Would go back to the GP for 2nd opinion if I was you.

Southcoastsarah · 30/04/2011 22:44

my doc does this kind of thing in the surgery, no need to go to the hospital

i had one removed from my back where it kept catching on my bra strap and bleeding

Sirzy · 30/04/2011 22:49

If your gp suspects anything you shouldnt have to wait.

When I was 10 I went to see a surgeon about another op and he spotted a Mark he didn't like the look of on my forehead - I was in surgery working days (even had both ops at once so jumped a 12 month waiting list!)

Loonytoonie · 30/04/2011 23:52

Some GP's run a minor skin-surgery session - I had my mole chopped off 3 weeks ago and am waiting for my results. Ask your surgery if any GP's in your practice are dermatology specialists too. Either way, don't hang around. Could be nothing of course, could be something though.

New on here any advice please. Went to my gp about a mole on my neck two different colours not raised. Referred me to dermatologist under 2 week rule received appointment next day to be seen the week after. Dermatologist looked at the mole and brought another doctor in for a second opinion. Also looked at my back and said there were 4 asymmetrical moles there. The one on my neck both doctors said you need it removed we would normally do this here but we think it's best to refer you to plastics under the 2 week rule. A man then walks in takes picture of my back and my neck with me holding a tape measure thing up to it. The doc then comes back in and introduces me to a skin cancer nurse gives me a card with her number on makes an appointment for me to see her at the skin cancer clinic in 5 weeks. I've had no biopsy nothing yet just waiting for plastic surgeon to contact me. I'm just a little worried not told my family as don't want them to worry as could be nothing. Very long blog sorry. Any advise.
