To not really understand why some people think the Royal Wedding makes our lives better

'in these difficult times'

I will admit that I watched the wedding, seeing as it does not happen very often and found it vaguely interesting.

But why is it that I hear people saying this wedding is a great comfort in these difficult times and some acting completely hysterical in the face of it???

I really do not get how when nobody has any money (relatively) they all feel better by putting a bunch of people on pedestals who they don't know.

Ok, they're getting married. I hope they'll be happy.....but that's it. I don't know them and I don't get that their wedding will make me happier.

Royalists, I'm genuinely interested to hear what point I've missed.

No, merrywidow - it has nothing to do with intelligence. They hang out with those who they think will fit in.

To put it bluntly, they have little in common with about 99% of the general public (I should imagine). What has intelligence to do with it?

Yes absolutelyfabulous, it's normal to keep company with those who think like yourself, for example I couldn't be friends with someone who sympathises with the BNP.

When people's worthiness of company comes down to how much money they have then that is quite unpleasant and a different thing altogether.

Is there simply a lot of people who like crawling to the rich? Or maybe they just think rich people are powerful.....Bosses are usually richer than workers;

And our royal family are richer than anyone. (And very secretive unless they need the publicity)

Is it just a case of many people "knowing their place" as in times gone by
I am just curious about hero worship. Putting people on pedestals

worshipping them from beyond the high walls and fences. Not very dignified

Well, exactly. That's my problem with it. People should be valued for who they are, not deified because they flounce about within a social circle far away from the great unwashed. I do not think that behaving this way is something to be proud of at all.

Amen to that

I am no royalist and most certainly don;t 'get' the whole 'I Love Them' thing.

But.

after whinging how crap it all was, i got a call last week from very old friends saying they were having a street party 9back home, many miles)- if we came they'd have a barbecue reunion after; so we did; and without the excuse they'd not have thought iof it, i'd maybe not have seen many for 7 more eyars and Iit was fab.

So if it makes people want to do happy things then why not?

but i don;t get what makes anyone better than anyone else by an accident of lineage

It was smashing because people came together. It was just smashing.
