Maggots in Ocado food

Am I wrong to turn down the £50 Ocado is offering me after I realised I had feed chicken soup with maggots in it to my two year old? The council's environmental health people tell me they will take no action because they don't believe there was any risk of harm and the works were probably fruit fly maggots!

Take the £50 goodwill gesture. You could turn it down and it might turn into a better offer but it's risky. Bird in the hand and all that. Was it actually an Ocado/Waitrose product or was it branded?

What is it that you want to happen?

It was own brand chicken, plus some veg - not clear which the maggots were in. NHS direct say to watch for symptoms of food poisoning for up to three months. I just feel guilty for not spotting them soon enough and am annoyed that Ocado spoke to the council before they spoke to me - and that their initial offer was £25.

Well considering Ocado gave me £25 for the driver simply not bringing my shopping up 4 flights of stairs, I think what they're offering you is a bit stingy. But since your child hasn't been hurt, I'd accept the goodwill gesture, and ask for an apology and thorough investigation.

Shock

pales my mouldy peppers delivered last week into insignificance Sad

take the £50 but also call the local paper

fruit fly maggots/any freaking maggots is revolting, it shows the product had been festering away for the length of time for them to hatch ffs.......

Considering there is a health risk here and that you have to be on alert in case it will manifest during a THREE MONTH period, £50 is not enough! Say you take the £50 now and your children get very ill later which could cost you financially (maybe you have paid for a holiday and cannot go for instance), you would feel very aggrieved. I would demand much more for pure neglegence on their part. Your childrens health is not for sale, but they should pay some form of fine as an acknowledgement or send someone round to check for symptoms of food poisoning in your children over the next three months and to take care of them should they actually become ill. I'm sure that would cost a lot more than £50 to sort out Angry
