in not letting my kids play out until it has rained?

my girls usually play out with their friends afterschool. they have a 'den/camp' round the corner (patch of grass, some bushes where they do handstands etc)

yesterday morning a lady was badly hurt round there by someone. Sad we dont know the full story, buit there is a fair bit of blood round there, inc one large congelled puddle right near the girls den.

we dont know if we can go out and scrub the area (am thinking maybe police need to say yay or nay), so the children can play. of we should just pray for a heavey rain this weekend to wash it all away.

i dont want to put the kids under house arrest when they havent done anything wrong, but really dont know what to do.

is there no where else that they can play?

worraliberty · 28/04/2011 13:20

Tell them to move their Den and then go and scrub/bleach the area?

If the Police were not finished with it, you wouldn't be able to get near it as it would be sectioned off and guarded.

Can you phone local police station and ask if you can clean it maybe?

Or what about taking them out somewhere like swimming or a park or something, or get them something sufficiently exciting to tempt them indoors like a new DVD or game.

I expect it's a bit much to ask them to stay away from the den and expect their curiosity not to get the better of them?

Or actually, ring the Council/Environmental health to deal with it quickly.

If a woman was badly hurt there by someone yesterday surely it's not a very safe place for them to be playing anyway?

squeakytoy · 28/04/2011 13:35

I agree with Morten.. and cant you just tell your children to play somewhere else until you know exactly what happened.

misdee · 28/04/2011 13:37

we dont know what happened with regards to the lady, it appened overnight/early hours of the morning. it was a bad crime day yesterday in the town, with sledgehammer attacking in the town, the lady near mine, and a bloke stabbed a bit further on as well. just spoke to police dept, they are passing details on to their clean up team/council.

i think the children are safe to play out, they arent out late, usually all get called in at 6pm, and there is usually at least one adult out there as well keeping an eye/ear on things.

I wouldn't let children play back there unless you know what kind of incident occured.

misdee · 28/04/2011 13:43

the mums are discussing that with regards playareas etc, and where they can play for now. we live in a cul-de-sac with 3 patches where the kids could play. but 2 they got moved on from when they were just turning cartwheels and handstands. which left patch#3.

looks like i'll be chucking blankets out on my front lawn for the long weekend.

some has now been cleared up. have spoken to other neighbours and we have agreed where kids play in sight/hearing distance at all times.

if the rumours are true (and they probably arent) then the police caught the man responsible for the voilent crime spree last night.
