I was thinking about just how unreasonable I have been in my time as a parent. Fortunately for me most of this was before I discovered mumsnet but I dread to think what sort of well deserved flaming I would have had if i'd discovered mumsnet earlier.

Here's an example. Don't flame me now, I know the error of my ways.

AIBU to think bottle feeding is just for chavs? (i said this to midwife after 48 hours of constant bfeeding following 8 weeks failing to achieve latch and insisting that there was no other option) FAIL!
AIBU to go on a tree identification walk to prepare me for parenthood? FAIL!
AIBU to shout 'Mothercare!, Mother fucking don't care more like' in a postnatal rage at a shop assistant? FAIL

oh i'm sure there's more.

what's your confession?

A very early, if not my first AIBU post, was to vocalise my horror at children sitting in shopping trollies with their shoes on where I'm going to put my food.

I was told that shopping trollies are dirty and everything is wrapped up and washed before eating anyway.

I still think it's disgusting when you think of the amount of spit and dog shit on the streets, so the only thing I learnt was to be careful what threads you post if you're not up to a flaming that day Grin

MN has an amazing ability though of throwing up perspectives you'd never have thought of in your wildest dreams, and that's why I love it.

worraliberty · 27/04/2011 21:29

Oh was that you with the shoes Zigzag? Grin

I remember that thread cos I said I can't believe people allow their kids in the trolley without making them sit in the seat...the thread then became awash with cat's bum faces Grin

Sorry for the thread jacking OP

I could probably be flamed for a lot of what I did with DD1, she had ishoos (medical) and I did a lot of stuff for an easy life that I never did with the others.

Like she had a dummy going to bed until she was 5

And one day, when she was being a total wee madam, she peed herself on purpose in Sainsbos because I wouldn't get her sweets. Shopping abandoned, her in the "grip of death" got home literally flung her into her room and ordered her to strip and wash and change she was a dirty wee madam and a filthy dirty girl and I was ashamed of her.

She never did it again though Blush

Oh Jeez flamed? I would have been burnt at the stake!!

About two weeks after ds had been born I still hadn't left the house. Following a traumatic birth (4th degree tear etc etc) unbeknownst to me I was still in shock and not functioning properly on any physical or emotional level. Along comes my mother earth sister and with the best intentions said "come on, let's take ds for a walk". Twas Sept and a chilly day. I muttered a "ermm ok, yes", put on my jumper, coat, scarf. Picked up ds, put him in the pram and went to leave. My sister said in THE most diplomatic way ever "Errrmmm do you think, maybe, we need to put some clothes on ds?" I'd plonked him in wearing just a sleeveless all in one doobrie.

So I guess my AIBU would have been "AIBU to take a newborn for a walk, nigh on naked in this weather?"

worraliberty · 27/04/2011 21:39

ivykaty how can I put this without scaring you lol....

You know how we all look at our kids and think "the time went too fast"?

Well when they're teenagers, time actually stands still and you can't wait for the buggers to grow up Grin

AgentZigzag · 27/04/2011 21:41

Ormirian · 27/04/2011 21:43

Serves me right eating my dinner, watching a film and MNing at the same time Grin

Bohica · 27/04/2011 21:49

Mine would have been:

I hated the mother at school who was horrid to my DD so I have slammed doors in her face. Left her outside in the pissing rain as I refused to open the door even though everyone else had already gone into the hall.
Parked my hire car so close to hers in the carpark there is no way in the world she would have been able to get in unless she crawled through the boot.
And on a school trip I kicked her handbag under another seat on the coach so we all had to stand around tutting whilst A. she searched for her bag & B. searched for all her belongings that had rolled down the inside & under the seats of the coach.

In my defence (yeah right) she knew she had been in the wrong to start it all as she never uttered a word about my behaviour but....... shameful on my part & I have stopped now Blush Wink

worraliberty

worraliberty · 27/04/2011 21:59

I'm in awe of you ivy how the hell did you get the bugger to move out Shock

I'm considering moving house during the Eastenders Omnibus...no-one will notice til it's over...and I' can be miles away by then Grin

ivykaty44 · 27/04/2011 22:03

heliumballoons · 27/04/2011 22:22

worra Grin Maybe run away to the neighbours house. Wink

Ramekin I started one once about something that had happened with my sister. I had been there and involved but not involved, as in said nothing, and I got flamed. Shock Got called all sorts that night. Shock Just kept thinking is anyone actually reading what I wrote. Wink

agent I remember the shoes in trollies thread. I agreed with you too - more on a children who can should be walking round a supermarket - yes its boring but tuff shit, they wanna eat, they have to shop, Grin Blush

ivykaty44 · 27/04/2011 22:34

I just rang her and asked if we can go round to watch the wedding Grin its great...worra, don't be to nice to them they do then get the hint - apparently there is only a small window of oppertunity when they will actually move out, otherwise you could be stuck with them till they are 45 Grin I think it is between 17 and 19 when they know absolutaly everything and parents are even dumber than first thought Wink so stike then with a few silies and they should open the cases and pack

ivykaty44 · 27/04/2011 22:36

Ditch your whinging parents. Move out, get a job, and pay your own bills - thats what you need to suggest
