Scientists at the Hadron collider (CERN) appear to have found the god particle and could now unlock the secrets behind mass.

thats sooo cooool maaan!

oh to be in that lab! damn my lack of intelligence or id so have been working there!

so good thing or bad thing?

it bodes well for royal wedding and also means we are coming into a global period of increased gentle activity

everything and nothing tiffany, it depends on what they do with it or can find out what to do with it.

you were taught by mrs Higgs? wow. i was taught by an old pervert!

Jodie Higgs (RIP - she died recently Sad) was a lovely American lady who was one of the reasons I studied Linguistics at Edinburgh rather than sticking with the crusty old French department.

She was also a yoga teacher - she was one of those people who just exuded calm and coolness. Smile

Hicks Bison: The largest small particle around, and it has hiccups. Stand well clear.

Make it a Bosun and I'm not sure what to do--get ready to be piped aboard?

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 27/04/2011 15:42

Jody was a practising Theravada buddhist, I have another friend who also exudes the inner calm you describe RtHonLady and she was raised in the Quaker faith.

I'd need a very large particle transplant to emulate them.

Time to start building an ark?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 27/04/2011 15:46

It scares me TBH. When they started the large hadron collider I seriously considered keeping DD off school for the day.
There were predictions of explosions and a doomsday scenario mooted and we only lived about 150km away.
In the end I sent her to school, I hadn't considered DH in any of my plans.

GrimmaTheNome · 27/04/2011 15:55
Confused

Why would anyone be scared about the possible detection of a predicted particle?

Anyhow, if they do have proof of its existence, they should certainly stop calling it the 'god' particle Grin.

ratspeaker · 27/04/2011 20:51

So they did they find it?

was it down behind the cushions?

NorthernGobshite · 27/04/2011 20:58

It was at the bottom of my washing basket.

GrimmaTheNome · 27/04/2011 21:06

If the Higg's Boson is the particle which conveys mass, then I think I've got an excess in my thighs.

alistron1 · 27/04/2011 21:33

The 'discovery' of the higgs boson would confirm the standard model of physics and mean that woo like homeopathy is not possible

The God Particle Article

In a nutshell they think they have discovered a trace of it, but they haven't done enough testing.

They confirmed the leaked memo was authentic though. How exciting!

DanFmDorking · 27/04/2011 22:11

The announcement is premature

Speculation about a dramatic finding in the search for the elusive Higgs boson particle is premature, experts say.

An internal note leaked on the web reveals that a group of researchers at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has detected a signal compatible with the sought-after particle.

A spokesman for Cern, which runs the LHC, confirmed the note was authentic.

But he told the BBC it had not been held up to proper scientific scrutiny and could turn out to be a false alarm.
