Engineers are weird IME. I think it must be the sort of profession that attracts a very certain personality type.

Am sure I read somewhere that they have one of the highest suicide rates amongst professionals, after dentists apparently.

Of course I could have read this somewhere like the Onion...

SF I have no idea have just logged on and think all of the KM webchat threads have gone [chmm]

Ikwym about social awkwardness - me too, and that's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about deliberate rudeness, OK if I won't get into trouble I was worked up about someone who went on the thread of a MNer worried about her DD to say "What is the point of this thread?" and she said that repeatedly.

Ironically, DH and I are engineers (if you count software, which I don't) and so is my Dad - he is lovely :o FIL is a dentist, recently retired thankfully, after reading that Shock. I wonder why??

Ooo StayFrosty, I always wonder if your name is from Aliens.

(Why yes, I am a bit of tragic geek as it happens)

FlamingJamie · 27/04/2011 12:02

Oh yes, well spotted SomethingSuper. I would like to be called GetAwayFromHerYouBitch, but fear it's a bit of a mouthful

STEALTHY..deliberate rudeness,eh. There is a lot of that about; especially from young people in groups. They compete with their mates and mateesses
in a very loud way.

But most older people have a sort of public manners which I recognise from my youth. There is, of course, a lot more boozing anmong the young.

But try not to despair. We still live till we die.

SomethingSuper · 27/04/2011 15:16

Oh defo go with GetAwayFromHerYouBitch Grin

I have a book called 'Alien Woman: The Making of Lt Ellen Ripley' that's about the changing depictions of women in film based on the Alien franchise Blush It's vair interesting, honest!

Fridgid! Who even thinks in those terms anymore? Was that someone on MN who actually said that? Men-tal.

JamieAgain · 27/04/2011 15:19

Something - no need to apologise. I would like to read that book. What a role model! What a woman!
