To wonder if Parenthood needed a licence, how many would pass?

"How awful is that woman?" "Poor children" "He was dragged up not brought up" "Some children grow up despite not because of their parents!"
Realistically, if people needed a licence in order to have a child, how many do you think would pass? I don't think many would TBH AIBU?

Sorry hairylights I should have phrased it better to read, AIBU to look at someone and think if there was test you would never pass!

I remember when I had DS1, I couldn't believe "they" were just going to let me take this tiny vulnerable person home.

Parenting classes, noooooo! Think about it - the tutors would all be Health Visitors from hell (apologies to all HV Grin) and this is really the problem - who would set the test and decide what you needed to do to pass?

We all parent in our own hapless hamfisted unique way, and standardised tests would be so depressing. The people would rebel Grin

And smuggery is such a dangerous thing - you just know the people whose slack attitude to parenting are the ones who have lovely, beautifully behaved children, whilst your own are causing havoc and public embarassment. Or perhaps that's just me...!

Straight2Extremes · 26/04/2011 21:12

I feel sorry for some children they don't pick their parents, some people seem to forget parenthood is a responsibility not a right.

PeachyAndTheArghoNauts · 26/04/2011 21:21

All the things in that OP have been said about me (ASD kids, can;t see by looking)

OTOH I have many SSD assessments saying I am a great aprent (Social Worker reallya dmires me apaprently. Okaaaaay) and used to work for a leading parenting charity; I am a good aprent

Having worked in the field I would say most aprents woudl make the grade. Many parents make mistakes but almost always not through malice.

Mummywalsh · 26/04/2011 22:51

PeachyAndTheArghoNauts you're quite right, but I'm sure you know just how to handle your LOs whereas others just don't have a clue, I think I was musing out loud for a moment when I posted, I don't really judge others, I'm too busy juggling my own 3 :o

Just pull your judgeypants up a bit higher, Mummywalsh no need for a license ;)

Targeted? what would be the criteria for getting asked to do a course?

hairfullofsnakes · 26/04/2011 22:56

Nobody would pass! Parenthood is the hardest thing, but good too

wotnochocs · 27/04/2011 00:03

Who would decide what the right answers were?

duckypoo · 27/04/2011 00:27

After standing there watching my ds2 lurching further into the paddling pool and falling over, with his face going into the water for what felt like about 10 minutes (about 5 seconds in reality) I think I can safely say I would get a big fat fail. I did eventually react btw and he was fine

I would probably fail on many many other points too, oh well, they seem to be coping with my incompetence.
