To expect people to actually turn up?

This is my first AIBU so be gentle :D

I've had a week off work so have been clearing out my house and freecycling/selling a ton of stuff. I also have some adorable kittens I've been trying to find new homes for.
In the last week I've had maybe a dozen people arrange pickup/viewing etc and then just not turn up meaning wasted time I could have used taking my kids out somewhere. I wouldn't mind it so much if I was contacted to say "hey I'm running late" or something like it, and some people have done that, but most just haven't bothered and I'm left trying to chase them up.
One person I ended up threatening to give the item to someone else after THREE no shows and miraculously they turned up within the hour.

Do some people have no sense of honour or respect any more? I have had some people turn up promptly and be lovely to deal with but most people just don't seem to care about the inconvenience it causes other people when they just don't bother to show up with no notice.

The key to freecycle is I think... to tell them when you are available. ie. we will be in at 6.00pm till 7.00pm for collection, if you do not come between that hour then it will be reoffered.

People take the piss on freecycle and you have to be firm with them.

I've found that some people on Freecycle tend to be rude because they are getting things for free and they seem to think they are doing YOU a favour by taking the stuff.

I wouldn't chase them up tbh. I'd give them a set time to come. If they can't make it, then offer to someone who can.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/04/2011 15:50

Please don't give the kittens to people so disinterested.

Wankers.

LaWeasel · 25/04/2011 15:53

You wouldn't really give away kittens on freecycle would you?

How do you know where they're going?

Tarenath · 25/04/2011 15:57

I'm not freecycling the kittens! They are on gumtree ;) and I phone "interview" anyone who is interested.

You are far more patient than me. If I am freecycling something then if they don't show once without letting me know then I will offer the item elsewhere. In fact on principle I wouldn't let them have it (unless it was massive and would be a big hassle to me to get rid of it otherwise) even if they were then only respondent - I would give to a charity shop instead.

Yes, it is a favour to you to get rid of items but it is more of a favour to the person who is getting something for free and if they can't show common courtesy they can f*ck off as far as I am concerned. This is the reason I hardly ever use freecycle anymore tbh
