to be disappointed with the Merlin Tower attraction at Warwick Castle

I visited Warwick Castle on Saturday 23 April with my DH and DD and we purchased the Kingdom Ticket which enabled us to visit the Castle, Dungeons and The Merlin Tower.

We had a great day out at the Castle which was an amazing spectacle especially with all the re-enactments and the staff dressed in themed outfits. The weather was glorious too which
added to the whole experience but the Merlin Tower was AWFUL.

Where do i start?
We paid x amount of pounds to stand in one crowded sweaty room being talked at, the member of staff got a few children to hold a staff which lit up? Wow, great [unimpressed emoticon]

Then we sat down in another crowded sweaty room being told to prepare? For what?
The dragon identified a number of people in the room to have special powers we left the room and it was all over?

It was naff beyond belief, in fact I laughed intermittently all the way back to the car! My DH would look round and he knew why I was laughing. We kept saying, what would the American
visitors think of Merlin!!!

Has anyone else been there and been totally disappointed with this?

I quite like warwick castle - my 4 year old adores the trebuchet - but we went to the new princess tower a couple of weeks ago (3rd day it was open there), and it was totally naff compared to the old one. Far too much talking, and nowhere near enough princessing. Used to be a good dress up and proper experience. Now its a lot of talking in the entranceway, get a crown and sceptre pushed in your hand for a photo (no choice), then held in a little room before you get talked at by the princess. I kept waiting for something to happen tbh

Arthur is lovely (facially, don't like beefy bods) but I do like a nice Irish accent. And cheekbones. And skinny men, esp with blue eyes and dark hair so Colin's right up my street lol. DP is super skinny and I always seem to go for that type.

If you're a fan of Arthur you may like

I love Warwick Castle and would pay the admission price just to see the trebuchet and jousting.

I was there on 23rd as well ... maybe we met each other Grin. I was really annoyed at booking time slots and then queueing for hours anyway in the blazing sunshine. The Dragon Tower was a real let down. My DD loves Merlin and was really looking forward to it. We didn't even get into the Dungeon, because the queue for our slot was an hour long Hmm!

HSMM, we were there for hours from 11.15 till 5.30pm so probably walked past me loads of times! I wore a navy top and white trousers! [slightly excited at the possibilities of HSMM remembering me for some strange reason emoticon] Grin

Of course I remember you Grin. You might remember me, after my DD was sick in the Dragon Tower Envy Grin. Apparently someone else was sick in the Dungeon!

Actually I usually do notice people wearing white, because I never seem to manage it without leaning on something grubby.

Limara · 25/04/2011 21:51

HSMM I've just seen you photo and I actually don't recognise you Grin!
No, I didn't see any signs of anyone being sick? Are your legs hurting? We all walked up those 500 steps from tower to tower and are legs are suffering now! When I stand up after sitting for a while, my legs are agony!

I let my DH and DD climb the steps, so I could take their photos Grin
