To still use 'friends' baby name for my dog??

i already have one dog... Then a couple of months ago I had my first DD and before I knew she was a girl picked names for both sexes...

Found out very early (due to tests following complications) that we didn't need our boy name - barnaby.
DH said shortly after DD was born, that we should get a second dog and use this name...

I love it... (now think MUCH more suited to a dog than a baby!)

But last week a girl in my department at work gave birth to her first DC... Barnaby!

DH doesn't see the issue... And thinks we should still use it for our dog.

I'm a bit of a facebooker and so is she... So it's not like she wouldn't know.

So... AIBU to use this name for my puppy??

When I was about 6 (ish) my parents friends got a labrador and gave her my name! Not sure what my parents thought about it, in fact I will ask them tomorrow now you have made me think about it! But it didnt bother me, I seem to remember being quite proud and thought they had named her after me, although I am sure they didnt :o

But I was quite a bit older, naming your dog the same as her very young PFB might cause offence. Is she the type that you could say "OMG you will never guess the name we picked for our new dog.....etc" explaining that you picked it before she named her son and she would be ok?

I guess its down to whether you think she is likely to get in a huge snit about it or not and be funny with you when she goes back to work. The name of a dog isnt worth straining work relations for! Perhaps you could use a similar name, say Barney, that is close but not exactly the same.

I wouldn't like it if someone I knew named their dog after my newborn DC.

Think about how you would feel, think of another name for the dog.

But the OP isn't naming the dog after another person's PFB, but want to use name they intended to use themselves for their own child.

I would go ahead and then explain later. If you're close you should be able to talk about it, and if you're not it shouldn't matter :)

echt, the OP knows that and so do we but the colleague might not see it like that! People using the same names for their children causes arguments, using someones PFB name for their dog, no matter what the reason, could cause a huge hissyfit!

My Mum has used every one of my favourite baby names for her dogs over the years. This is just coincidence, she doesn't do it on purpose. Just loves her animals and likes to give them 'normal' human names. As opposed to her DC who all have 'out there' names, thinking about it.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it. Call your dog whatever you want. Incidentally, did you mention the name Barnaby when you were pg? If so, she may have copied it from you!

It wouldn't bother me if someone I knew gave their dog the same name as one of my DC, but then I am very 'doggy' I suppose. I don't see what they is to be offended about though?

We have a dog named Poppy. We didn't expect to have any more DC when we got her, although it was a name we had both liked for a girl. We have since had two DD's and are now expecting another. We both still like the name, but maybe it's a bit much having a dog with the same name as our DD. We already have a DS named Connor and a dog called 'Connie' although we didn't name her ourselves. I do occasionally cringe when I have both dog and child out together and have ot use both their names though. Smile
