To worry that my Chicken has been violated?

We have 16 Chickens in total. However yesterday Matilda "said Chicken" and Bean "her friend" escaped. Had a look for them, with no joy, eventually they sauntered back of their own accord.

Today they both escaped again, we patched up where we think they were getting under the fence, looked for them both and then started some weeding. Eventually Bean turned up.

By 6pm still no sign of Matilda. I ventured further afield and notice 2 orange tagged legs in a Chicken Coop. I shouted her, she came running out and looked panicky. Asked DH to go in the allotment and get her (normally would climb the fence myself but pregnant and thought DH might like the "hero" part of the mission). Matilda was running around panicking, Cockerel who lived there kicked DH and made a right fuss when Matilda was lifted over the fence. We left and she had some salad when she got home.

Am now worried though because she must have been in there for hours and I tried to tell DH she was young and vulnerable but DH said she was an old battery hen and hence why would Cockerel want that tough bit of old meat. What if Matilda is never the same again and the Cockerel violated my innocent old girl? I am not happy with his behaviour, he has enough girls of his own.

Do I need to give her special treats tomorrow, or shall we just not talk about it?

If I were you, I wouldn't make a fuss in front of her. They pick up on these things.

But you should probably call the RSPB's abuse line, they may be able to help.
