Street Party

As there isn't an official street party happening here on Friday, dd thought it might be nice for dgs if we took our picnic table into the street to eat our party food. AIBU to expect cars to drive round us on the way to their garages (it's a cul de sac)

I think you may look a little silly just eating at the table in the middle of the street with no other people Grin Perhaps you could go round to the neighbours and ask if they would like to participate and join you? If there isn't an official street party happening you could organise one? :)

YusMilady · 24/04/2011 10:50

Are you joking? Take a table right out into the (unclosed) road? Cul de sac or not, it's asking for trouble. Can't you just eat out in the garden?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 24/04/2011 10:51

erk

I wouldn't, how old are the children?

If they are at that squirting up and down from the table age then that could be a bit dangerous

just eat in the garden, bit of bunting, far less likely to piss off neighbours

jimswifein1964 · 24/04/2011 10:53

If its a cul-de-sac, I'm assuming you prob have front gardens. There's a nice compromise. Out front, but not going to get run over! Btw, you're too late to apply for an official road-closure-for-party.

TidyDancer · 24/04/2011 10:54

Er, I think YABU. And a bit silly. Just eat in the garden. And no, I don't think it would be fair on the neighbours just because you fancy eating in the road. Sorry. If there's no official street party, they won't be expecting you there.

purepurple · 24/04/2011 10:55

I wouldn't bother with the table. A picnic rug should suffice. YANBU, the cars could always mount the pavement for a bit of extra room as they drive round you. [helpful emoticon]

Hulababy · 24/04/2011 10:55

I assume you mean on your own front lawn/driveway?

Would seem very odd to just pitch up int he middle of the road on your own TBH.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 24/04/2011 10:56

ROAR purepurple

Violethill · 24/04/2011 11:00

Oh no, I disagree about the picnic rug. I think a full size dining table, with linen tablecloth and napkins and silver candleabra.

YusMilady · 24/04/2011 11:02

I think purepurple is on to something. Spray a diversion arrow onto the road and loll about on a pile of cushions right in the middle.

purepurple · 24/04/2011 11:04

[sshh] violethill, that's what we are doing and I didn't want anyone else to copy us
I have got the lads from the local rugby club to do some waiting on. Aprons are all ready. Hope it's a warm day as they won't be wearing anything else.

TidyDancer · 24/04/2011 11:16

All round to purple's house then! [bugrin]

heliumballoons · 24/04/2011 12:06

We are having a BBQ in our communal garden and its growing daily with friends being invited. Thing is its grass and so we are using one of the visitor spaces in the carpark (leads onto garden) to cook on. [bugrin]

We are just thinking as the space doesn't 'belong' to anyone they won't mind. we hope

jangly · 24/04/2011 23:06

purepurple Yes. I reckon a picnic rug would be fine. But I think perhaps we will go for violethill's idea and bring out the family silver for the occasion.

I love these AIBU threads. Grin
