Wiki:

A girl is any female human from birth through childhood and adolescence to attainment of adulthood. The term may also be used to mean a young woman.[1]

Girl means female child. Look in a dictionary.

girls night out and girly luunch et al makes me want to vom. Grow the fuck up and be a woman.

DontGoCurly · 23/04/2011 18:25

I looked in the dictionary just now to check I wasn't going bonkers. It also means young woman too, so it says there and on Wikipedia. And I know it to be so in common parlance.

I'm not going to stop using it and I'm not going to accept the stigmatisation of the word either.

My dictionary specifies IMMATURE after young. If you are happy to be immature, fair enough.

You may not accept any stigmatisation of the word, but you might be grown up enough to be careful about applying it to others who might, and also to be aware of how people may view you if you don't.

When I was at least 45 I went to see a consultant at the hospital. Can't remember if it was pain clinic, fracture clinic, rheumatology or what, but he opened the conversation by saying "Well you are a young woman..." Confused

Hi Prince, have you visited the "place to moan about pain" thread on General Health - very supportive Smile

Right-e-o Winter. I tell you what.... I'll take my chances out there in that minefield. I seem to have managed thus far in RL without any notable disputes featuring the word 'girl' but thank you for your dark warning. I'll try to bear it in mind......oooh look at the pretty colours...
