To be mildly irritated with those who assume that we're banner waving, aromatherapy sniffing tree huggers?

This is just a lighthearted whinge.

As many of you know I'm very pro animal rights and a believer in no kill policies when it comes to animal rescue, added to which I don't eat animals. Now, you may agree or disagree, that's your perogative and not the thing that pisses me off.

What really gets my goat is the assumption that I must therefore be a banner-waving protest marcher who is into recycling like a loon and all things green, homeopathic, aromatheraputic, spiritual and woo.

Example... I go out to dinner. Someone spots that I don't eat meat and immediately tries to engage me in a conversation about aroma-bleeding-therapy! Yet the closest I come to aromatherapy is putting Radox in my bath!

For the record, I may be an activist but the last time I went on a protest march was 30 years ago, I'm a huger fan of gas-guzzling cars than Jeremy Clarkson and I don't hug bloody trees!

ooo sorry hijack ....
MC do you find acupuncture can help with arthritic pain? never tried it for that. sorry if being too nosey

HipHopOpotomus · 22/04/2011 00:56

No real problem apart from being 43 so doctors at mat hosp being very concerned and adamant that I be induced on due date. Of course they know very little about mr, we met once briefly when I got the hard line based purely on the number 43.

I was 40 with DD. She was 9 days over. Normal birth at birth centre which is where I want to be again. Got sweeps booked with MW for next week and more accupuncture. It's ment to stimulate hormones - if it works as a placebo even better. I'm fascinated by that theory that our minds can heal us and don't understand why people are dismissive of placebo. So I don't gave to take these expensive drugs with nasty side effect? I just have to BELIEVE xyz will cure me? More research into the miracle of placebo cures please.

Oh no, chick, they might think me an up my own arse do-gooder but no-one is ever under the false impression that I never think badly of anyone! Quite the opposite, I'm known for being a cynic!

:o

Oh and it really didn't hurt. I felt 2 of the 7 needles but less than s pin prick. The others o didn't feel at all. I'm not very brave or have high pain threshold either.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 22/04/2011 01:00

She's not really a do gooder. I hear she pokes dogs when no-one's looking. And sneaks up on badgers to freak them out.

Vallhala · 22/04/2011 01:04

Hey, HipHop, I'm all for whatever gets you through the night, be it Jesus Christ or Jack Daniels, so to speak. If it works for you, regardless of WHY it works, great.

As you know, second babes often come earlier than first ones so don't stress. Besides, 43 isn't old. Take it from a 46 year old!

Chances are you'll be "off air" in a few days.... and I wish you and baby well. I sometimes think that I should have had mine in my 40s and not my early 30s and had it not been for illness and subsequent surgery which (purposely and necessarily) made me infertile I would probably have had a third DC as a 40-something mother. As it is I'll enjoy reading your updates about your little one. :)

It goes with the territory I'm afraid, doesn''t it, that sleeplessness. Make sure you take up all the offers of help you get and catch up on sleep as much as possible. Take it easy, HipHop, night night. :)
