I have just got back from the doctors with my 19 week old DD, the doctor did her height and weight and she is off the charts for both. The doctor I saw was new and she suggested that I cut her feeds in half or water them down and that I should start her on baby rice.

This doesn't sound right does it.....or does it.

A bit of background.....I am living in North America, I gave up breastfeeding 5 weeks ago because I also have two DS's (both born at home in the UK) and it was all too much. She was 7lb 11 at birth and she is now 19lbs

I never had any problems with the boys but this doctor has me in a tizzy.
AIBU, is she right? What is the current UK advice re weaning.

Seems very odd advice to me. Ds4 was 22 lb at 26 weeks and exclusively breastfed. Your dd doesn't sound huge to me. Have never heard of anyone being advised to water down formula either.

My DD was on the 99th centile at 20 weeks and the 25th for height Shock. IShe had such chubby wrists that i could not clean in her folds....and she was completely breast fed. Only every 4 hours and she slept 7 to 7 at 8 weeks old. She was just chubby. I was told by a doctor and a health visitor to stop feeding her solids (I wasn't) and then to put her onto a bottle and water the feed down.....

By 18 months she had lost any baby chubbiness and now at 9 years old she is small, but perfectly in proportion. She is 25th centile for both weight and height.

She has also never had a day sick off school and never had antibiotics.

You know if your baby is healthy.

My SIL has a friend who is a doctor, I have called her and she is going to ask her opinion for me (they are in the UK). In the mean time I am going to continue on as normal, I agree that it's madness to water down feeds.

Swarksi, my ds2 was so chubby that whenever we saw a doctor, before they got a chance to say anything, I would immediately say "He is just breastfed, he's never had anything else!" I was sure they would think he was being fed 10oz bottles with a scoop of rice thrown in!
