to think that very lightly padded bras for young girls just hitting puberty is a good thing?

I've just watched The Sex Education Show (already being discussed on another thread) and have a slightly different opinion on the padded bras.

When I was just hitting puberty I sprouted these horrible, pointy breast pimples that I hated and that were there for what at the time felt like ages.

A normal bra drew more attention to them as they were pointy. I used to wear lots of layers, even in summer to hide them until I found a lightly padded bra.

I did not wear it to have bigger boobs or to draw attention to them, in fact it was quite the opposite. It rounded the pointy horrible things and, in my opinion made them less noticeable and there me a lot more confident.

I don't think they should be sold in the children's section or have provocative lace or be push up (yuk) but I really think that there is a place for small padded bras.

If that didnt come across properly, I mean that small sized bras shouldnt attract the same concern as lapdancer pants and toddler high heels. Blush

I thought the programme was stupid. If those clothes were the worst they could find in Primark, they could find similar stuff in any store.

It's hardly a recent phenomenon either. I recall being shocked by the amount of leopard print in Adams when shopping for my now 16yr old DNiece.

Anyway, mums with no taste are always going to find unsuitable clothing regardless. If you think it's unsuitable, you're not going to buy it.

dd (14) wear "angel" bras from M&S - she has cone boobs and these are really nice and entirely suitable for teens - they are not sexy, just sensible....and fun. Cute even! Of course she would like black lacey balcony push up bras....she can buy her own!

I can't actually remember going through puberty, it seems so long ago now :( I don't see the problem with lightly padded bra. No biggie really. Kids are very conscious at that age and if it gives a bit of coverage when they're starting to develop, that's all good in my book.

Moulded t shirt bras are not provocative like a lacy Wonderbra. That kind of padding is support really, not augmentation.

I wish I had them, my first bras were bought by my mum off the market and had very unsubtle broderie anglaise on them.

bonkers20 · 20/04/2011 22:00

I wish they'd had t.shirt bras when I was a lass. I wear them ALL the time now, for coverage and shape. I wouldn't think anything of getting one for a developing daughter of mine.
