to think Cesar is a dog's name?

My neighbours have a boxer dog, and a small black-and-white cat who shits in my garden is a regular visitor to my patio. Now and then I've heard the father calling out 'Cesar! Cesar!' in the back garden.

I always assumed he was calling the dog.

Then the other day his kid popped up at the back window and told me that Cesar is the cat.

AIBU to think this is deeply wrong ? I mean, I had a big black bruiser cat whose nickname was Brutus, but isn't Cesar a dog's name????

????

???

Brutus is a brilliant name for a big bruiser of a cat.

I knew an enormous ginger cat called Caesar once so I definitely think of it as a cat's name. It really suited him. I've never heard of a dog named Caesar.

I'd love to call a cat Brutus - great name for a cat! Especially a big ol' tomcat. Wouldn't suit a nice little Burmese though.

Manatee, Brutus the bruiser cat, i wish i could borrow him, he'll be good for the annoying tiny dogs next door, cant remmber what they're called, i call them old lady dogs, always barking and snapping at people.

if he's a brute or an ol'tomcat perfect, a burmese would have to called something like "foxy"! Wink, are tomcats the ones that wail like babies at night ?

missymarmite · 20/04/2011 18:28

My neighbours have 2 lovely cats, but they are tough as nails! One of them attacked a visiting staffie! lol

I heard this story on the radio a while ago about this guy who named his dog 'Come Here' and when he wants it to come to him he has to shout "COME HERE! TO ME!" :o

marmaladetwatkins · 20/04/2011 19:04

After Ian passed away, God rest his soul, I had another cat and I called him Rocky as I was 6 and had a crush on Neil Morrissey's character Rocky from "Boon" Blush

I love unlikely pet names Grin

marmaladetwatkins · 20/04/2011 19:04

Then another one what I called Sid Vicious because he was a vicious little fucker.

OTheHugeManatee · 21/04/2011 10:20

Sid Vicious is a brilliant cat name Grin

Brutus was a savage old bastard, rescued from a semi-feral life on an estate in the wastelands of outer London. He had ears like postage stamps, a diagonal scar across his nose and a huge scar on his side from where he'd fought a fox. He couldn't be made to wear a collar, because his neck was thicker than his head, and his favourite game was trying to amputate my forearms.

I reckon he must have used up 8 or so of his 9 lives before I got him - I had him for about 3 years before he died of heart failure. I still miss him, even though he was an evil fucker who'd bite anything that poked out from under the duvet if you didn't get up instantly to feed him. If he was still with us he'd make mincemeat of annoying little dogs Grin

Definitely a dogs name.. but only for small yappy-type dogs.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 21/04/2011 10:27
Grin

Well.. that's cheered me up!

ipswichwitch · 21/04/2011 10:42

my friends had a dog called dave, who was very fond of stealing underwear out of the washbasket, carrying it about for a bit they trying to give it to visitors. they knew someone who had a cat called pat, and a turtle called myrtle :)

OTheHugeManatee · 21/04/2011 10:51

jojowest · 21/04/2011 11:45

someone i know called their kid Felix, now that definitely is a cats name :)

emptyshell · 21/04/2011 11:50

I think Brutus would be a wicked name for a big burly ginger tomcat.

Cesar.... nah not a dog's name - doesn't pass the "prat in the park" test for dogs names (will you feel like a total embarassed wanker yelling it twenty times in the park on a busy summer's day). You'd feel like a prat yelling Cesar.

Champersonice · 21/04/2011 11:50

I thought about this thread last night - I saw a bit of Essex Jungle (? not sure if that is the correct title). Anyway, one old guy had a water monitor as a pet that he had named Caesar!
