To be more nervous about dh's interview tomorrow that he is?

....if that's possible. He is a lorry driver and is being interviewed tomorrow for a position (as a driver) at an international company worth squillions. DH is a gibbering wreck, as am I though trying not to show it. He's terrible at interviews/exams etc and tends to waffle bless him. Interviews in the past have been very informal as in "Alright mate? Got an HGV licence have you? No points? Ok when can you start?"

THIS interview however is going to be very formal. The amount of paperwork he's already had to fill in is mind boggling. I've told him that it's perfectly acceptable at the beginning to tell them that he's nervous and to bear with him if he stumbles etc but IS it? To be honest, It's been years since I've frequented formal interview land.

I am sooooo nervous for him, know how much it means to him. Any other tips, guidance I can give him? Thanks in advance

(even moreso) Shakey

Hi!

I saw your post and didn't want it to go without a reply.

Firstly, you and your DH should be proud that he has got to the interview stage, it shows that he has skills and ability they are looking for. So, if he keeps that in mind, it might help him feel confident.

Also, he's been driving for a long time (I assume) so he isn't a total novice like some people might be going for jobs.

I think it is okay to admit nerves but important he pulls himself together during interview.

I don't have any real tips, tbh, just wanted to say well done and good luck to your DH!

I get nervous for my DH as he's a bit....well...you know...in formal situations.

I always imagine I'm famous and getting interviwed for telly...then I actually enjoy myself!

Aw i'm sure he'll be fine! I was far more nervous than DP when he went for his interview!!

Tips? For you or him? :o

shakey1500 · 19/04/2011 22:23

Tips for both of us :)

SFBB- yes, my dh is also a bit...well...you know. It's the nervous waffling that undoes him. He's gone to bed, finally, muttering buzz words like team player, communication, initiative. All alien phrases in their formal terms. If the interview was taking place down the pub he'd walk it.

Thanks TLC. He's a great driver, just rubbish at interviews. He really wants to work for this company as well, dream job scenario etc.

I will be on tenterhooks all day.

For you i'd advise drinking copious amounts of alcohol for him i would not :o

Seriously though keep yourself busy and turn your phone off to stop yourself watching it and waiting for it to go off (unless thats just me who does that when DP is in an interview?) for him try and find some common ground with the interviewer.
