to think that carrying a small bottle of water should be a basic human right?

I'm a football fan and I do understand that normal considerations given to human beings don't apply to us, due to the actions of a few, but really.

The Football, League have a rule that lids have to be removed from plastic bottles before you can enter the ground. You can take in a bottle without a lid, but not that easy when juggling children, tickets, bags etc.

Also, if I surrender my lid(s) at the gate, I have no portable drinks for the journey home (on away trips). There are 2 adults and 3 children in our party. To but everyone a drink at the ground is nearly £10, plus buying more on the way home and we only want tap water.

AIBU? And if not is there any point me writing a letter?

Bit of a pain but you can take in flasks.

or hide the drink in big pockets.

or take cartons.

southeastastra · 18/04/2011 18:03

they did this to me at the O2 arena, i guess they didn't want people to lob drinks lids at the actGrin bonkers innit

missymarmite · 18/04/2011 18:03

Why have they done this?

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 18/04/2011 18:06

Hide the lid Grin

goodbyemrschips · 18/04/2011 18:06

plastic lids can be used as missiles and have in fact blinded a goalkeeper in one eye.

Silverstar2 · 18/04/2011 18:06

can you take cartons? Annoying rule I agree.

KeepCalmAndCurryOn · 18/04/2011 18:08

Take a spare lid to put on after they've confiscated the other.

missymarmite · 18/04/2011 18:08

Shock words fail me

tortilla · 18/04/2011 18:12

If somebody lobs a loaded bottle of water, that is quite a missile - 1l of water weighs 1kg so the force of the throw as well makes it a pretty heavy load against the head. If they lob an opened one, the water spills out and somebody is only hit on the head by a few grammes of squidgy plastic bottle.

Sorry but YABU. They are not stopping you drink your tap water in the venue. And you can refill it and carry it home with you carefully.

And you are more than ridiculous with your title. Do you know how many people don't even have access to safe water in this world? Sigh. You're just moaning about having to juggle an open bottle for a few hours.

Guitargirl · 18/04/2011 18:16

Am with tortilla on the unfortunate wording in the title when it's about a football match!

take a spare lid with you in your pocket if you know it is going to happen, or just fill the empty up at the tap on your way out...

ChippyMinton · 18/04/2011 18:24

I take a spare lids in my pocket. Simples.

are you allowed to bring juice cartons in for your dc? as that will avoid the lid issue

Insomnia11 · 18/04/2011 18:34

DON'T GET ME STARTED ON AIRPORT SECURITY MEASURES

TidyDancer · 18/04/2011 18:36

YABU. I have seen the damage just the lid alone can do when thrown (at an Aerosmith gig). Sorry, I agree it's annoying, but when a couple of people act like wankers, they have to bring this kind of rule in.

YABU and overdramatic

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 18/04/2011 18:47

Sad, isn't it, when enough people behave so badly and dangerously that they have to put such rules in place?

If football fans did not get aggressive, throw things, fights, invade pitches... and just sat there, enjoying the game, then there would never have been a need for barriers, police, refusal to allow bottle tops etc.

Most footballs fans are great. Just there for the game. My bil and neice are massive sheff weds fans and I know that true supporters hate the thugs. But when you have drunken yobs out to cause trouble - what are the clubs meant to do? They have to TRY to minimise risk and prevent trouble.

The foul minority have caused all this. It's their fault. So don't blame the club when you're thirsty. Blame the yobs.

southeastastra · 18/04/2011 18:48

i went to see jeff wayne's war of the worlds live, hardly an aggressive audience Grin, yet no lids allowed.

ilythia · 18/04/2011 18:49
