ok, so, i'm a little overweight after having my 2 DCs, and am thinking of joining a gym to help me get back into shape.
The gym near me is only small, and not too busy during the day, so i thought i'd give it a try. Only problem is, its a specialist body building gym.
I wanted to gain muscle, so the fact its a body building gym is not putting me off, its the thought that there will be too many big, fit men there, and i know i will feel self conscious.

Am i being over sensitive? Confused

You may feel self-conscious for a couple of minutes then it will be fine. They will probably be too busy checking themselves out monitoring their progress in the mirror anyway!

AlpinePony · 18/04/2011 16:08

Please don't feel self-conscious, they will be wonderful and will give you LOADS of tips & encouragement. You'll become a gym mascot and your husband will probably end up banning you and making you go to a gym filled with 18 year olds doing aerobics! Grin

Grin aplinepony - he's already said he wants to join with me.

i dont know tho, dont want to put them off their exercises, with all my wobbly bits

Agree with Hammy - in our gym, the blokes have a quick look then get back to looking at themselves. I have never felt self conscious or intimidated.

i know you're both probably right, judging by the amazing bodies body builders who go in, they obviously DO spend a lot of time looking at themselves. (and who would blame them) :)

In fact neverontime I find that I spend quite a lot of time looking at them Blush

nijinsky · 19/04/2011 11:03

Pffft. If its anything like most body builders in gyms, there upper bodies will be way more developed than their lower bodies, so if you learn to do proper press ups, you will be end up being the one impressing them! I've never seen people who struggled so much to do a few press ups as the body builders types at my gym.

BooJonesMummy · 19/04/2011 11:06

I used to worry about that then I realised that they were so focussed on body building they weren't fussed by my wobbly bits. I don't have time (or the funds) for the gym anymore sighs

nijinksy - i have a mental image of the body builders toppling over from all the weight up top while attempting sit ups now :) i'll have to keep that image in my mind when i'm feeling a bit self conscious
