Yes, I have name-changed, as I know this is going to sound really pathetic.

But here goes nothing.....

DH has just furnished me with the list of Saturdays and B/Hs he is scheduled to work for the rest of the year. He's spent all morning on the phone to colleagues sorting it out between them, juggling them about to fit in with each ones different circumstances etc. (it's very flexible)

There are a lot in April/May on his list, but I can handle that. We can always find a use for the extra cash.

But.........

For the whole of June/July/Aug he has only 2 Saturdays.

And one of those is the nearest Saturday to my birthday.

I'm really pissed off.

I gave him proper evils, he said we could do something on the actual day of my birthday, but that means anything would be child centred, and most likely not with any friends etc as they'd all be at work.

He has offered to try to change the schedule, but was grumbling about all the effort they'd put in to get it straight..............

So, how selfish am I? or is he?

My dh gets 2 Saturdays off a YEAR. He's been on a day off on my birthday maybe three times in our marriage and never on a weekend near it, it's adult life.

"but that means anything would be child centred, and most likely not with any friends "

I love b/days with my children/family.

Had years of celebrating them with friends.

Can´t you have a family day & go out with friends in the evening?

I had no idea that adults were so concerned about always having to do something for a b/day.

I don't have a day with my DH. He looks after the DCs when I work 3 days. This includes weekends.

I think you perhaps need to grow up a tad.

My Dp worked christmas day and boxing day day 2010, but he had new year off, he works lots of weekends as he works 24 hour shifts.

I actually like the fexibility, I had xmas day with my family and boxing day with his, no cooking or washing upGrin.

We were lucky enough to be ale to go out for lunch on my birthday.

I am sure your DH and his work mates are doing their best

My dh works every Saturday and Sunday. He has maybe 6 Saturdays off a year (4 of those only because we will be out of the country on holiday). Sundays will only ever be for holidays so 4 a year.
I would be over the moon if he could have two Saturdays in a month.
Think YABU sorry.

You're an adult, surely it should not make any difference providing you get to spend some time with him ON your birthday.

You aren't a sulking child that need pacifying. Grown up.

I'll never understand all this prissy behaviour over birthdays...they're really not a big deal.

I work every weekend, self employed, don't work, don't earn! Too knackered to have a social live at weekends. dH works Monday - friday.

Just be grateful he has a job!

It's not as if your birthday is on a Saturday he has chosen to work. YABU.

My DH works every Saturday.

YABU.

My birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks. DP's day off from work that week happened to fall on the same day, he swapped it for another day as we needed the other day more for childcare. Fine with me. You sound a bit precious about it to be honest if it's not even the actual day.

Is it a special one though?

I think I understand the birthday thing . . . sometimes I really want to do something special on mine (rarely happens) as we don't get out much, but it sounds like he did his best and has lots of other people to consider.
