It seems over the top to have an investigation and threats of disciplinary action.

If the company really objects to a palm cross then surely they could just ask him to remove it. Unless he has repeatly ignored reminders not to have personal artifacts in his van, then it seems a bit heavy handed.

I think the tenant who complained is just plain malicious. Its not as if a palm cross was hurting anyone.

Would this company allow a muslim electrician to carry a prayer mat in his van?

I think that this company need to do a spot check to see that EVERY van is clear of personal artifacts during the working day.

Edam - office divider screens are not usually visible to the general public, therefore no issue re company brand / public image. Though I may be relevant in other company policies - but those other company policis are not under discussion in this case.

It very much affects my view of a garage and how I feel about talking t mechanics about things I don't really understand if they have nude women and dodgy 'funny' slogans pasted up al over the place (as a garage I went to recently did). When deciding exactly what may or may not be acceptable you have to draw a line against it all, oherwise you get value judgements about this religion aganst that, che guevara against mother theresa etc - when the real issue is company isnignia, possibly an RAC breakdown sticker and that's your lot! And don't pray f your clients, whistle at women from the open window....and iron your uniform
