As its says really. DSis works full time and I'm on mat leave so offered to have DN next week but she has got nits, Sad was exposed yesterday and head full of it this morning. Have got DS 2.9 and DD 20 weeks. DSis getting Headrin stuff from docs on prescription tomorrow so DN won't be treated till Mon night. Has been through with tea tree and nit comb though.
She is spending tomorrow with the family who she got it from but I really don't want my two exposed.

How quick does Headrin work?

And AIBU if I can sorry can't have her?

Actually I think in reality I won't refuse to have her, DSis will be really stuck if I say no. Is there any way my LO's won't get it??

In a dither.....

Hedrin is lovely on the hair - it makes it really soft and silky, fine for bleached hair! It's NOT chemical, it's a silicone iirc which suffocates the little bleeders.

I hope so, valiumredhead - on your collective say-so I have just promised DS that it will be nothing like full marks...

Whilst wet-combing DS (Hedrin will have to wait until Friday) he raised some interesting questions - e.g. are head lice territorial?

caesar04 · 17/05/2011 21:13

Oo my thread popped up again!!

I DID look after DN, after using Headrin on the Sunday night she was totally nit free by the tuesday.
None of my lot got it and neither did my nieces and nephew (DN's cousins) after spending a whole week together the week before despite various wrestling games/hugging and general play.

So Headrin worked wonders although Dsis did loads of wet combing too.

And I have yet to experience....The Nits...Grin

OP quote:
"DN next week but she has got nits, sad was exposed yesterday and head full of it this morning."

IM very extensive experience of headlice and how to deal with them...
No child has a head full of lice after just a days exposure.
An infestation builds up (in my experience) after weeks of either no or insufficient treatment, until they then get a "head full"

I think your sis is taking the piss abit...

However with vigilance it is possible to prevent other's in the household to get them too. We did this for months into years...
DSD's mum sent her to us with a huge "head full"constantly.
We treated DSD's lice (by conditioner/combing method) for ages. As DSD mother did not treat them and had DSD with her most of the time, we could not totally defeat them. Instead we just managed to keep the population numbers low, which of course was better than a totally out of control head full/infestation
Eventually be did beat DSD's lice (ie the lice/lifecycle) when she came to us at extended school holiday time!

Interestingly, DD never got an infestation because any adult lice who dared to crawl on her. never stood a chance with us spotting and eradicating them before that had a chance to produce any licelings!

EleanorRigby I am beginning to think I need my eyes testing or s'thing. How on earth did you reliably spot a louse in your DD's hair before it had time to multiply?

By the time I can spot anything in my DC's hair, there are lots there - and it is the small lice I can see (I think - black dots on the scalp) - on combing I am then finding big buggers as well. I cannot honestly say I have ever seen a 'nit' (but have seen live eggs in DS's when I first realised he was infested).

Hedrin. I am pinning my hopes on it.

FannyFifer · 17/05/2011 22:17

I check DS each night, just have a quick look and a comb through with nitty gritty comb, I have often eradicated just the one which has got on him that day.
I feckin love bug hunting, very satisfying. Grin

i would be very suprised if you can get something for headlice on prescription, sadly schools now run rife with headlice its one of those things that cant be avoided. there is stuff you can put on your own childrens hair to try to protect them.

valiumredhead · 18/05/2011 07:40

I was prescribed HEDRIN last year - can be done but I expect it depends on the surgery.

cannydoit · 18/05/2011 08:37

nits are the bane of my life, there are parents up at my childrens school who just dont do anything about them. i have spent so much on bloody products hedrin worked at first but now no longer does. the summer holidays are the only time i get any rest bite from them. having said that though they are just nits. not the end of the world.

Fecklessdizzy · 18/05/2011 09:12

All my guys have had the little blighters at some point, we used to have competitions in the bath to see who could comb out the biggest!

The first time they showed up I had an absolute fit of the Howard Hughes' and practically shaved DS1's head whilst wearing a radiation suit, then my SIL talked some sense into me and now we just wade in with the comb'n'gloop.

Still a pain in the proverbials though, good luck!

lookbutdonttouch · 18/05/2011 09:17

Morning!
Armed with towels, combs, bribery (for her) and wine (for me) I covered both DD and myself with Hedrin last night. This morning after three shampoos each we both have lovely shiny hair and my highlights (bleach) did not mean that I have any bald patches (thank you for the reassurance ladies).

I will be repeating the exercise on saturday night and then again probably next wednesday. DD then goes away for a week with her dad so I would hope she is well and truly bug free by then!

I will need another excuse for wine from next wednesday - hmmmm
