We've just decided on a last minute break in the Lake District for DH, DD and me. Struggling to find accommodation I telephoned one B&B that had a double room free for a couple of nights. He told me that the bed was 6ft9" so I asked if we could share it with our DD aged 6. She's tiny and frequently sleeps with us in our kingsize.

He said no. I said we'd obviously pay a supplement for her. Again he refused. I asked if it was because of, say, fire safety regulations. He said no, they just don't allow three people to share a bed. I could understand them not wanting a man and his wife and their lover but we're a family!

Is he being UR or me?

You say no to the fire regulations being the issue, but is it possible it's an insurance thing, regarding the amount of people being in a room?

I'm not sure where this one falls. I don't think you are BU to ask, but I'm not sure he's BU to refuse....

Does he want you to book a more expensive family room perhaps?

Yanbu. We often do this when staying in hotels or with friends. Can't you find somewhere else to stay instead?

Sorry, just seen you're struggling to find other accommodation. How about asking if you could take an inflatable mattress fir dd, if there is space in the room?

Diabolo - his family rooms are fully booked.

I did ask if they had a fold-out bed and he said no, might get DH to phone with the blow-up mattress idea, though the owner didn't sound very accommodating (pardon the pun).
