To be annoyed with my dentist

Spent 3 hours at the dentist on Monday having a filling and two temp crowns. My dentist is normally very good but since Tuesday I've had 4 mouth ulcers along the side of my tongue (the side she did the work). They are pretty painful and I'm using medicated mouthwash to help get rid of them but I can't eat very well and sometimes speaking is painful too. Are they caused by the dental work? Why? Can't remember the last time I had a mouth ulcer.....

Go back to your dentist. They will want to know and should be helpful in sorting it out.

I'm going back a week on Monday for my permanent crowns so will mention it then. I think the medicated mouth wash is helping (and I can't believe I'm taking panadol for mouth ulcers!) so they should be gone in a day or two - just curious to see if anyone knows what might have caused them...

could be that your mouth got dry with the er drying thing they use to suck out saliva. I always seem to get an unlcer or two after the dentist and you were there for a long time! (poor you!)

Sounds about right monkey, thanks. Dentist appointments are really long here but you pay enough!

Hydrocortisone tablets are good a getting mouth ulcers to go away, if you go to the chemist and ask then they should give you some, you don't need a prescription. You hold them on the ulcer until they have dissolved. They are the only thing that works for me since they withdrew Adcortyl in Orabase Angry. I'm still bitter about them withdrawing it!

I've suffered with them since I was little so I have sympathy. The mouthwash is good for relieving pain temporarily but doesn't get rid of them IME.

My dh suffers with ulcers when he's stressed. Has has this little tape stuff that you stick over the ulcer and it turns to like a glue and it stays on overnight and then you peel it off in the morning, I'll find out the name of it.

Failing that mouthwash, toothpaste and vinegar gargling are all very good!

I'm not in the UK and you need a prescription for nearly everything here (Singapore). Will try to see a pharmacist tomorrow though to see what they can offer.

Interesting that mouth ulcers can be caused by stress - it is the school holidays after all Wink
