Programme on BBC3 about drinking, smoking and takeaway eating pregnant ladies surely another "Breast is best" type show that I think deserves discussing

I'm watching it.

Probably not the best person to comment subjectively having had two mc's this year Hmm. Making me want to shout at the tv!!!

Mare11bp · 14/04/2011 21:21

Oh I am worried if they are going to become judgey about takeaways in pregnancy I just finished my fish and chips!

Jaydles · 14/04/2011 21:22

I've seen it advertised so not watched it, but I don't like the title, it just backs up the idea that pregnant women are naughty schoolchildren if they do things against medical 'advice'.

And advice I understand to be up to you whether you take it or not, and errs on the side of caution.

Things like coffee/alcohol etc in moderation do no damage to the baby, but programs titles like this make it sound like everyone has a right to have a go at a pregnant woman if they see them 'breaking the rules'.

Cock off (not you OP Smile).

what the fuck has takeaway eating got to do with drinking and smoking? Have some nosy fuckers "banned" that too now?

Why would anyone watch such bollocks?

cherrychoo · 14/04/2011 21:32

Dh just made me turn it off.

5mcs, 16 months ttc.
makes me want to weep, truly.

SueSylvesterforPM · 14/04/2011 21:34

Oh im missing it

pinkstinks · 14/04/2011 21:36

Dont worry the smoking mum just decided quitting was all too much and "decided to stop filming" Hmm

Champersonice · 14/04/2011 21:50

All this talk of food has made me hungry so have made a salad of mushrooms, mixed peppers, tomatoes, chillies and garlic drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vigengar!! AIBU??

slowshow · 15/04/2011 11:11

Wish I hadn't! The smoking women (the one who pulled out of filming and the one who appeared on the preview of next week's programme) are breathtakingly selfish and stupid. Don't care if I'm BU for saying that.

"I'm doing my baby a favour by giving his heart a workout"
"The smoke is going into my lungs, not the baby's"

Hmm
dearyme · 15/04/2011 11:48

1 in 6 pregnant women smoke :(

FetchezLaVache · 15/04/2011 11:53

Champers- there'd better be a pizza underneath that lot!!

Jaydles · 15/04/2011 13:31

I personally can't see as much of a problem with eating takeaways as smoking or drinking. I couldn't believe that girl saying she was making the baby's heart stronger by smoking

With my PFB I went into labour, went to the hospital to be checked, established that it would take a while longer, so went home to eat fish and chips in the bath while watching Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.
I didn't realise this counted as misbehaving!

What a bizarre world we live in. Mothers and babies are dying every minute (second?) around the world because of the lack of basic stuff like clean water, and here we have a "documentary" that's only aim, it would appear, is to make women feel guilty about yet another thing.

SueSylvesterforPM · 15/04/2011 17:47

"I'm doing my baby a favour by giving his heart a workout"
"The smoke is going into my lungs, not the baby's"

jesus christ Im surprised she has enough brain power to continue to breathe

LaWeasel · 15/04/2011 18:05

I agree with you Agent Zigzag.

It's a stupid topic for a documentary. Especially shoving together wilfully ignorant people with others who are trying to do what is best but struggling.

EvaLongoria · 15/04/2011 18:12

The way I looked at the reason why the one who was eating unhealthily was shown in the programme, was more because she was very overweight and kept on eating unhealthy. Meaning she was at risk for things like diabetes, high blood, etc.

DrSeuss · 15/04/2011 19:03

I am 40, just short of 8mths up the duff, mum of one, just gone on mat leave this week. I am knackered! I usually cook, recently I have had a couple of take aways each week and have been a bit more reliant on convenience foods. If you object, please come and cook for me at the end of a day at work! Take aways are not the same as fags and booze.

smokinaces · 15/04/2011 19:08

It wasnt just the smoking that got me. It was the smoking in bed, with a full ash tray balanced on her bump. And smoking whilst sititng on the sofa with her 3yo. Who told her she didnt like Mummy smoking in the house - and was told "I'll smoke where I want to its my house". i did wonder why she bothered washing all the babystuff - bet it stunk by the time it was used.

And the one next week "I'm doing my baby a favour smoking as it strengthens his heart" - can people really be that stupid misguided?!?!?!?

discobeaver · 15/04/2011 19:56

The overeater did sort herself out though, although I was prepared for her to completely not do it, but she actually seemed pretty together.

The blonde lady I felt for, so stressed, obviously cut up massively about her divorce, but she did look far calmer by the end. Her midwife was waaaay scary, but sensible.

The smoking bint was just a selfish arse. You could tell she wasn't going to give up when she said she would quit 'in five days' No-one does that, you either quit there and then, or you are just kidding yourself.

I cannot believe anyone doesn't know smoking is unhealthy these days. To pretend otherwise is just being deliberately fuckwittish. Unles you've just come out of a twenty year coma.
