To not take DD to JLS/Ollie Murs concert with me?

She is a huge fan, but only 5, and I'm going with some other mums and dont want the resposibilty when I'm elbowing my way to the front! I do feel bad, and there are still tickets left, but I want to go by myself and scream like a teenager and not have to worry about losing her. She is really upset with me....

Too noisy for little ears - as a safety issue.

Who's in charge here? Course yanbu

lili2010 · 14/04/2011 06:36

YANBU not to take her, in fact you are doing her a favour. YABU for having such bad taste in music.

EggyFucker · 14/04/2011 07:22

fgs, 5yo's are far too young for pop concerts

b1uebells · 14/04/2011 07:25

Yanbu, but if you're main concern is loosing her while you push your way to the front, that may not be an issue. Is it a venue like the O2/wembley etc?

Every time I have, there was no pushing to the front allowed, people at the front ( and there wasn't many, were only there if they had been given a special pass )

Might not be the same for every concert though!

PrettyCandles · 14/04/2011 07:30

Far too loud for 5yo ears! Definitely YANBU not to take her. YANBU either to want to let your hair down and act her age instead of your own Grin

nooka · 14/04/2011 07:31

Are you even allowed to take small children to pop concerts? It sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. Don't even think about taking her, and tell her she is too young and that's that. Actually I think she might well find the experience quite scary too.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/04/2011 07:32

A friend took her 9yo DD to see JLS a while ago and said it was crap. They didn't come on till 10:00pm even though the concert started much earlier. Her DD was asleep by the time they came on stage.

Balsam · 14/04/2011 07:33

Why on earth did you tell her that's where you're going? You should have lied.

Sorry not helpful as too late now but for next time!

Jude89 · 14/04/2011 08:51

JLS generally put on a fantastic show, I'm not much of a fan but always enjoy their performances (lots of acrobatics and special effects)

I wouldn't take anyone younger than 10 to a gig as the music is loud and their ears are still developing, its also probably really late.

Vallhala · 14/04/2011 08:56

I wouldn't be bothered about the noise level but I would be concerned about losing a 5yo in a crowd, about her being knocked flying and about the fact that I would be unable to relax and have a good time with other adults - and, frankly, that they would have the nature of their evening changed in order to accommodate the needs and safety of someone else's 5 year old child.

You're the adult, just say no.

Besides, YABU for having such poor taste in music. :o

SeymoreButts · 14/04/2011 08:58

YANBU it's too loud.

My 5 year old DD is also obsessed with JLS, I can imagine she would be really upset if I went to a concert without her.... although I hate them so it's not going to happen! Can you buy some merchandise by way of compensation?

She hugged me this morning and said "mummy you're better than JLS" Hmm

It's interesting that everyone on here acknowledges that taking a young child to a pop concert is perhaps not a good idea. A relative of mine recently took her 3 year old son to 2 such concerts and my husband and I seemed to be the only ones who thought it was a bit daft! My objections were partly that there were no discounts for a child's ticket, so it was so expensive and I doubt he really got much from it!
