Or do I have a sign saying "I am illiterate" on my forehead?

I've just been to Sainsbury's and one of the members of staff was in the way of the item I wanted, I'd picked up one bag then realised they were 2 for £2 so went to get a different type but she was in the way. I said "excuse me please" and instead of just moving she looked at what I was holding and said "They're on 2 for £2 at the moment"

still didn't move...
"and look you can get or or ..."

I know she was just trying to be friendly and I know I should have just been more assertive but aaaargh.
Also whenever I go to a restaurant with MIL she starts picking stuff off the menu and suggesting them to me while I'm trying to read the menu. "ooh look they do jacket potatoes with cheese, or you could have an omelette, or a salad...". Again, she is lovely. But I can read!!

Dh said he told his Dad something along the lines of 'well kreecher does speak her mind'.

I hate it when a narrator in a TV show does a recap - say in Masterchef.

"Penny had a good first round with her peccadillo and sausage ice cream but struggled in the invention test as her mung bean and pineapple souffle failed to rise."

Yes I know I JUST WATCHED IT TWO MINUTES AGO. I DO NOT HAVE THE MEMORY OF A GOLDFISH.

PlopPlopPing · 13/04/2011 16:42

LaWeasel I'm like that too, can't speak properly when tired or speak too fast and say words wrong cos I'm saying so many. Plus I just get words wrong sometimes, I don't know why I just do! What do you say to shut them up? Would love to know.

mitochondria · 13/04/2011 16:49

My husband finishes my sentences for me. But always gets them wrong. Drives me loopy.

He won't let me look at the TV guide either. Having someone reading it out to you is not the same.

Cookies you say? What time you home form work?

I think the problem is that most people assume bears can't read.

Indith · 13/04/2011 17:01

storminabuttercup our Waitrose closed and Ocado don't deliver round here. Poor SPB doesn't have the choice but to slum it at Sainsbuy's. It is a sad story but true :(

StealthyKissBeartrayal · 13/04/2011 17:38

oh I know daahling sainsbury's is simply vile but the little man in there does make rather good cookies
Erm I'm afraid I dropped them out of an open window on the way home Indith. Dreadful accident, you know how it is.

PlopPlopPing There is a great MN phrase "gosh, that sounded really rude? Did you mean to be so rude?"

I also go for "Don't be such a twat." (probably less good for ILs)

Indith · 13/04/2011 18:12

Eating 10 cookies is the sort of thing I would do. Mainly because I would have eaten 8 of them, realised how that would look when dh came home so would eat the rest and hide the evidence.

I don't need cookies, I have cake and am about to make another one. All for toddlers tomorrow you understand. I will in no way be sampling it tonight.

why do my AIBU threads never kick off? Am I that dull?

YES

PlopPlopPing · 13/04/2011 18:52

"gosh, that sounded really rude? Did you mean to be so rude?"

I love it, I love it, I LOVE IT!

Will definately use and will definately inform MN of the response.

So excited! (Is that a bit sad?)

StealthyKissBeartrayal · 13/04/2011 20:15

Oh dear - how sad for you. Really no waitrose?

[chuckles glad that stealthy realised that she was kidding]

Our nearest waitrose is about 30 miles away, i used to work near it and popped in once or twice. Sainsbo's here is horrid. I shop at morrisons or asda! FWIW - co-op do the best cookies (the taste the finest extra specialness ones)
