pish!!

Why do people feel the need to go one better than the previous person? It happens on various threads!

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 12/04/2011 22:34

shall we all say the same thing then?

sickoftheholidays · 12/04/2011 22:35

yanbu. but YBslightlyU not to use a proper word like Bollocks for example.

AgentZigzag · 12/04/2011 22:36

Cos someone's always got a better story, I love competative poverty/neglect of children/how little housework people do.

It makes me feel relatively normal.

Only relatively though Grin

YouaretooniceNOT · 12/04/2011 22:37

One up manship - is common place in RL too! it is their inner child - they cannot control it! or are unaware...

tallulahxhunny · 12/04/2011 22:37

whats wrong with pish?

you can say the same thing if you want but do you have to say it louder or more often? thats how it usually is

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 12/04/2011 22:38

I agree with sickofhols, pish just doesn't sum up the guff some people post Grin

sickoftheholidays · 12/04/2011 22:39

well pish is fine, but it always reminds me of lord percy in blackadder. Showing my age now. Entirely personal preference, but I like Bollocks best.

blondebutonlyfaking · 12/04/2011 22:39

I prefer shite myself

Grin
southeastastra · 12/04/2011 22:40

would you not miss it

sickoftheholidays · 12/04/2011 22:41

or if you dont want to swear, I find twaddle is an excellent and socially acceptable alternative

BaronessBomburst · 12/04/2011 22:42

I like 'pish'. My dad says 'pish'.

But I do think that bollocks was the word you wanted here. Grin

southeastastra · 12/04/2011 22:48

i don't know what my dad said, thinking about it, i think he'd just say nothing Grin

shakey1500 · 12/04/2011 22:51

What about "utter tosh"? I like to think it has a suitable disdain.

SolarPanel · 12/04/2011 22:51

Dunno, is this a thread about a thread?

YouaretooniceNOT · 12/04/2011 22:54

I think soalr should start a thread about this thread being about another thread

YouaretooniceNOT · 12/04/2011 22:54

solar

AgentZigzag · 12/04/2011 22:54

It's probably safe to say it could be about any number of threads solarpanel, which ones would depend on your own opinion.

missymarmite · 12/04/2011 23:45

Maybe some people find it cathartic to rant a little bit about a crappy situation. It doesn't necessarily mean they are being competitive. I hate it when people scream "competitive poverty/whatever" just because someone dares to tell their story. Who the fuck are you? The NM police? "No personal anecdotes allowed!", "Ooh the poor have dared moan about their situation, they should just shut up and put up in their hovels, we don't want to know about it, might put us off our dinner".

AgentZigzag · 12/04/2011 23:54

I think it's when posters use the competative whatever to back up their argument missymarmite, that it gets a bit ridiculous.

So a poster will argue she has it hard because her DH is away all week and ignores her at the weekend, then numerous other posters will say all the reasons why they have it so much harder and she should think herself lucky because she can afford eggs/bog roll/to breathe.

Saying you understand another poster because you've been where they are is totally different.

missymarmite · 12/04/2011 23:56

OK, just re read my post and it comes over as a bit agressive, sorry

will go to the naughty step and chill for a bit now...
