...to find being flashed at funny?

So I was in my front room the other night, watching some chinese lanterns floating across the sky and an odd looking man walked past and just stared at me. Then he walked past again. And then again, and pulled down his trousers (back half, not front.)

I pulled a face, shut the curtains and just laughed it off. I did, however, make sure I triple locked the front door...

I told DH when he got back from work the next day and he was horrified, saying I should report it to the police and it was virtually an assault. He was also concerned the flasher could either do it to someone else who didn't find it funny or go on to actually physically assault someone.

I didn't report it. Should I have done?

Well I've reported it now. Thanks all.

It's good to hear others had a similar reaction to mine (not brick throwing though!!) - I guess I didn't quite realise the extent to which something that seemed a bit silly to me could be part of a wider, escalating issue.

I am a lone parent and would be terrified! What a fecking cheek to do that ..get it..cheek..oh well...

LostBoyz · 12/04/2011 20:26

I don't think it is in the least bit funny. I've been flashed out three times in my life and all three occasions have made me feel physically sick, violated and frightened.

toeragsnotriches · 12/04/2011 20:27

I get it. I just can't come back with one as good as that! Grin

Last time that happened to me I told him he really shouldn't be bragging considering and reported it to the police.

depends - some moonings can be funny as long you don't feel threatened - all depends on the circumstances.

toeragsnotriches · 12/04/2011 20:30

Sorry LostBoyz x posted didn't mean to come across flippantly towards you. I thought there was a possibility I was being unreasonable to take it so lightly - and that's why I have reported it.

Ooopsadaisy · 12/04/2011 20:33

Are moonings and flashings the same thing then?

I always thought a moon was a bare bum in the air while a flash was a willy-wiggle.

All 3 of mine were willy-wiggles (apparently).

YouaretooniceNOT · 12/04/2011 20:34

dawntigga he really shouldn't be bragging considering - LOL!

toeragsnotriches · 12/04/2011 20:48

Ooopsadaisy I'm loving that you didn't notice any of them. And even more that that lady took it upon herself to tell you!

OP posts:
MitchiestInge · 12/04/2011 20:52

why did you triple lock the front door if you thought it was funny?

Ooopsadaisy · 12/04/2011 20:53

Yes, I am a flashed-at-virgin still.

The lady was a terribly posh lady with a prim shopping basket on her lap. She informed me that "you didn't miss much, dear".

She went on to tell me that some men are sexually attracted to women "in my condition" (I was heavily pg at the time - DD was born the following week). I had never met her before and haven't seen her since.

I was actually more disturbed by her than the weirdo at the bus stop.

toeragsnotriches · 12/04/2011 20:56

I'm not sure if funny's exactly the right description of my reaction... more that it was laughable? I was alone with the kids that night (am often) and always am a little more 'security conscious' as a result. And, as I posted earlier, something did rankle a little about it - hence the post, hence my reporting it earlier this evening.

Ooops was she a Miss Marple type? I'm seeing her as that. Fist of steel in a velvet glove!

In Birmingham City Centre there is a huge old church. The bus i was on was in a traffic jam and i noticed a man in broad daylight standing by the church wall having a wank and he cum all over himself. I was Shock. I was only about 15 at the time. Sorry!

K999 · 12/04/2011 21:09

I was sexually assaulted in broad daylight when I was 18. The police said it was more than likely a flasher who had progressed to more serious acts....so IMHO you shouldn't think it's funny and am glad you reported it. Smile

Ooopsadaisy · 12/04/2011 21:13

toesragsnotriches - yes, but without the hat.

I did report the third flashing incident as I was alone and running through an area used by lone dog-walkers and lots of children going to the local secondary (including my own!). I am well aware that what I find mildly amusing may seem threatening and potentially sinister to others.

YouaretooniceNOT · 12/04/2011 21:20

Also the all girls senior school i attended was situated on a common. There were always flashers about.

mysticpizza · 12/04/2011 21:47

Glad you reported it, OP.

As has already been said, it's often a precursor to escalating behaviour.
