To send an email to sainsburys complaining about driver?

ok I'm in a grumpy mood today, so probably ABVU.

I'll go with what the jury decides...

Returned home from morning grocery shop to find sainsbury delivery van completely blocking my drive way. There was room for him to pull over:
A. In front of next door (where he was delivering to).
B. Next to the pavement either side of my house, or neighbours house
C. In fact most of our side of the street was empty, so tons of easy options.

As the road is busy, and getting into my drive is a bit tricky (we reverse in due to traffic, and the drive is steep and curves round a lot), so not easy to just pull in.

I parked across the street and lugged my shopping and DD(20m) across the street. Driver was in back of truck with doors closed, so couldn't suggest he not park there in future. DD was wriggling so popped her inside. By the time I got her sorted and went to ask politely if he could not block drive in future, he had pulled away.

Ok, probably not wotrth complaining, but would a request to them to make a mention to their drivers to not block people's drives BU?

Thanks, just writing makes me feel better.

YABU you should have knocked on the window and asked him to move so you could get the car in.

RunsWithScissors · 12/04/2011 16:32

Oh, I pulled over across the street as I had a car behind me I needed to let pass before I began pulling up to reverse in. When I saw the van, I waited a bit to see if he would pull off, but took a while so had to get out as DD was close to lunchtime/getting antsy in a stationery car.

I am assuming you dont normally drive a van, it is not the same as being able to park a car, and you do need an awful lot more room.

He was only there for a short period of time, doing his job, so yes, you would be being quite unreasonable to complain about him.

RunsWithScissors · 12/04/2011 16:32

As I mentioned, he was in the back and I had a big bag in one hand and DD wriggling in the other.

I have driven quite large vehicles include. Vans. The amount of parking avaiable to him was equal to approx 10 car lengths. They've not had trouble pulling up before with less room/ not blocking drive. But sounds like I'm BU, so fair enough.

And he had shopping to deliver

Grevling · 12/04/2011 16:37

I think YABU.

If you'd asked him to move and he said no then you could complain. Did you not think about parking in the "tons of easy options" you highlight earlier and asking him to pull forward?

Silverstar2 · 12/04/2011 16:41

Annoying, but just one of those things.

YABabitU.

Finger · 12/04/2011 16:52

You should have done what angry bird on the motorcycle would have done and kicked the side of the van!

Finger · 12/04/2011 16:53

Or, just waited 5 mins till he was finished.

grubbalo · 12/04/2011 16:57

To be honest I can see how annoying that would be, it's one of those situations where in the cold light of day it doesn't seem that bad, but at the time...!!

I don't think there would be anything wrong in speaking to Sainsbury's to say you aren't complaining, but would someone mind asking the driver if in future... kind of thing, or asking your neighbour. It's putting it in a way that makes it clear you're not complaining, just that you didn't get a chance to ask him etc.

So you probably ABA BIT U but having been in similar positions I do understand!!

HeadfirstForHalos · 12/04/2011 16:58

YANBU!
Sorry, but blocking someone's driveway is rude, even more so when there is plenty of space to park elsewhere. Why didn't he park across the drive of the house he was delivering to? It's just common sense.

YABU for not knocking on the back of the van and telling him to fucking shift asking him if he could be so nice as to move up a bit so you can access your driveway.

chateauferret · 12/04/2011 18:06

I don't think YABU. You would fail your driving test if asked to pull up somewhere safe and selected a spot at the end of someone's driveway.
