Having it removed next Monday. Fairly convinced its causing me to be depressed, moody, dark cloud of irritation to the extent that I can't really "enjoy" things much as before. Or much at all.

I've had it nearly a year and a half so I've given it a fair whack. I love the idea of it, really I do so I'm gutted this might be wrong for me, I wanted it to be right.

Very hard to find any official statistics on the side effects. So much of that has to be anecdotal I guess that it must be hard to gather them. And Mirena wouldn't want them published anyway.

Its at the point where I feel unless I have it removed I will never know what is causing therefore I have to have it removed, even if only to rule it out.

Hopefully I'm not doing the wrong thing, but did anyone have their Mirena removed and feel better quickly enough that they are convined that was it?

Anyone convinced that was it and found they were a mardy cow even without it?

I never suffered PMT before, or mood swings (unless really provoked...)
Sorry, I know its not really an AIBU topic but I want traffic and the moods I get, rest assured I am well and truly capable of being very very unreasonabler!!! So feel free to tell me I am!!!

I had mine in for a year. Periods never stopped but were less painful but had an on off period for the first 6 months - continually. It was terrible. I also found a drop in my libido and I suffered from depression. It was so bad that it nearly ruined my marriage. After the sodding thing was taken out I felt better within a couple of weeks. I am sure it affects everyone differently but I hated it. I know a few other people who are happy with it but I also know a few that found it really altered their mood.

I have had mine for approaching 3 years. I get on quite well with it. My very heavy periods are much better.

When it first went in I felt lots better and like my PMT had calmed down.

I do think it's made my hair thinner though. Although that could be PCOS, I have been taken Saw Palmeto to try and counter the thinning hair.

I could have written your op. I was so depressed. Had it removed after 18 months of misery. Was so much brighter after just 3 days. dh especially noticed my lightened mood.

A mooncup sorted out my heavy periods. After being really heavy and painful for years, about 20 months of mc use my periods are regular and relatively light and completely pain free.

Good luck op.

I tell you what - the heavy periods and pmt are awful since having the mirena out, but its still MUCH better than feeling like a totaly miserable depressed loon when it was in!

Within 24 hours of having the rotten thing out I started to feel like myself again and realised that the year before had been like living under a burkha or something - it was like the light came back into my life.

As another poster said, it was like an out of body experience - becoming me again.

I had one put in as I was having heavy periods. They didn't explain that it was impregnated with hormones and I had a terrible time - worse bleeding than ever, pain....and I kept crying all the time.

I just wasn't me!

I tried to get it taken out a couple of times but was persuaded to give it more time. In the end I rang the hospital that inserted it and insisted that I wanted it taken out....no problems, they did it straight away and I felt SO much better within days (if not hours).

Wouldn't touch it again...no way. Horrid thing!

BUT it works for some.

My mirena saved my life....well atbleast my marriage! I'm on my third one and haven't had a period in 12 years, nothing, zilch,

No PMT either, was an evil bitch for who hated everyone for at least a week until i had the Mirena. Success story for me.

I loved it for a good while, then all of a sudden I started spotting all the time again (after 2 yrs of no periods), and also suffered ovarian cysts which burst apparently a fairly common side effect.

Can't say I noticed any mood changes though

I was very relieved when I had mine removed. The mood swings went, as did the almost constant thrush and bacterial vaginosis. Like another poster, my GP raised eyebrows at me and denied the Mirena could have been responsible for any of it. I disagree.

Hi
I had a Mirena coil about 13 years ago - and im convinced that when my periods did start to be much lighter I then became quite depressed and grumpy in a way that was not norm for me. I had it removed it improved quite quickly.
Now ive just been persuaded by my gynae to have another one as I have adenomyosis and apparerently it helps with that. I will be very watchful this time, but for me the depression didnt happen straight away it seemed to be connected to a lack of periods. Ive only had it a month this time yet so cant really say this time yet!
