  1. Washing everything at 40
  2. Using water/vinegar to clean instead of anti bacterial stuff
  3. Only washing outdoor windows with wiper thingy when it rains
  4. Using sopa nuts instead of powder/conditioner
  5. Not seperating towels/bedding/underwear in laundry.

Please tell me I am not?

I generally try to keep the house clean and tidy ( Neither of us arethe cleanest or tidiest of people though so an hour throughout the day is plenty for me!) but am sick wasting money on anti bacterial shite and polish/air fresheners that make me gag and feel like I am suffocating.

I asked him if he thought everyone died in the olden days because their was no anti bac or bloody boil washes, his reply was no but there have been advancements... yes in advertising apparently... Hmm:o

Now tea on the sofa, that IS manky. :o

gorionine · 11/04/2011 09:05

I thought "manky" meant dirty since when is actually doing the cleaning with products that are environment friendly "dirty"?

upyourdiva · 11/04/2011 09:07

I do agree that they don't get all stains out etc but I have chucked in a half cap of Ace Bleach with a load if something is looking a bit stained and it came out fine, also a tablespoon of soda crystals bring white's up when they need it.

Would bed mite's be an issue if you wash weekly though? I air my beds (neatly) all day too rather than making them :o

YANBU. I wash most things at 30. I think I'm a hero cause I separate the dogs towels. Bed mites etc are not on my radar.

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 11/04/2011 09:16

I dont think you're manky....but I do wash at 60 if m todler has been sick of something....it's the only way to kill germs

WassaAxolotl · 11/04/2011 09:58

We I wash things at 30, except for bedding which goes through at 60 (I worry about dustmites).

I clean with water and/or Ecover.

I don't clean the windows, although I have some Wilkinsons' Window Cleaner against the day I get around to it.

My husband entirely supports and shares my moral stance against antibacterial cleaners. Grin

You sound like you do more cleaning than I do, and are really environmentally aware and conciencious. Just ignore him!!

BionicEmu · 11/04/2011 12:13

You really do a lot more than me! Windows get washed when I can't stand them being dirty any more (or when my mum can't stand them being dirty and just does them when she comes to visit Grin) All washing gets done at 30, although loads of towels/bedding/DS's puke/wee/poo-stained clothes get a scoop of napisan in with them - my concession to trying to kill off any bugs. I always mix towels and underwear though - the only things I'll tumble dry. I know, I'm really not being very environmentally friendly, so kudos to you!

I use Ecover washing up liquid and an Eco washing liquid (recommended on here). I try to wash at 40 where I can but with 2 LO's and generally a mixed wash each time with towels, bedding and sicky or pooey smelling items invariably my washes are at 60. I use a scoop of an eco version of napisan when I remember and wash at 40 then.

Use Ecover window cleaner which I think has vinegar in it and Method shower spray. Only use antibac to wipe down kitchen surfaces at night and in bathroom when doing general clean. Bleach only used in the loo cos the eco stuff doesn't clean it well enough.

So OK - but could do better!!!
