To think that swans are awful creatures?

I was walking along the canal today....ours is quite picturesque with barges, lots of reedy plants and duckies with their ducklings etc. There have always been a pair of swans on the canal...as long as I've lived here (most of my life) I remember seeing them....well today I heard an awful noise as I walked and I saw this swan shoving through some reeds on the other side of the canal and this duck freaking out...and the swan put it's head into the reeds and came out with a tiny, wriggling ducklng in it's beak!

It has STOLEN it from the nest and the poor thing was wriggling and the Mother was freaking and the swan dipped it into the water over and over and drowned it.

I walked away but lots of people stood and stared in shock...and when I looked back it had it's horrible big swanny neck and head stuck BACK IN the reeds and was after another one to drown.

WHY did it do this? They don't eat meat do they? Was it after the nsting spot or something?

It really disturbed me.

What about dolphins? The teenage dolphins go around in gangs drowning other innocent creatures of the sea and then they play catch with their bodies.

Yeah, exterminate the swans. Horrible creatures.

They don't deserve to live, what with them doing all that... err... swan behaviour.

Yes what horrible creatures they are, look how evil 🙄😏 no one hates on a lion or Bird of prey who can both be vicious so why swans. I think they are wonderful, based on my swan family I followed for 9 months.

Nowhere near as bad as humans. We do a million times worse to other animals only it’s kept out of sight. Enjoy your chicken nuggets/duck a l‘orange.

How do you feel about lions? They eat cute little gazelles and baby wildebeest.

Giraffes have long necks and they are peaceful (apart from when they fight each other).

Swans are so beautiful but like most creatures , not very "nice."

Someone works in PR for swans!

Witnessed the same thing at a NT place a few weeks ago and now can’t look at swans in the same way. Knew they had a nasty streak but Christ, it was horrible. It drowned one duckling then was chasing another one that was frantically trying to swim away. Horrible bastard.

I'm no swan expert but I imagine it was trying to make sure there were enough food resources for its own cygnets and eliminating the competition.

Yes nature can seem cruel.

I can on here to 100% agree that swans are the WORST.

Ducks aren't great either, male ones at least. When it's mating season the males are brutal to the females, they pull out their feathers, drown them and gang rape them.

Not nearly as nasty as human beings.

When this was happening didn't anyone think to throw the swan some food to distract it or was seeing the ducklin murdered more entertaining than common sense
