To think that the selection of toddler boys clothes on offer is shockingly bad!

I've been trying to buy new clothes for my 18 month old recently and found it incredibly difficult to find plain, well made clothes. I find most clothes are too fussy with logos or writing on them. I think the quality has really gone downhill in shops like M&S which used to be good. The only place I've been able to find nice, plain jogging bottoms was polarn o. Pyret which is relatively pricey but nice. Can anyone relate?

I get quite a few bits for DS and DD from LaRedoute. Most of their clothes are plain and they have quite a good range of colours

pitterpatterfeet · 08/04/2011 20:38

I'll need to have a look in next it's a shop I never think to go into. I've bought a few things from gap but quite hit or miss. Also a couple of nice pairs of dungarees from John Lewis.

Peacocks. Just bought some lovely jeans there for my son and they had many shirts and other types of trousers.

Georgimama · 08/04/2011 20:44

John Lewis own brand (surprisingly inexpensive)
The White Company
Boden
Joules
Boots
JoJo Maman et Bebe
La Redoute
Sainsburys

PumpkinBones · 08/04/2011 20:47

All the nicest things I've bought for the DS's has been from H&M.

fromheretomaternity · 08/04/2011 20:48

Next definitely one of the best of a bad bunch

tesco and asda have some good stuff though you have to be a bit choosy

Love Gap stuff usually but went in yesterday and came out with nothing - I don't want my toddler to be a walking advert for them, thanks

dementedma · 08/04/2011 20:50

when DS was little got lovely stuff from Vertbaudet.
Now he's 9 and built like a brick shithouse, it's hard to get stuff for him that isn't all skulls and doom. Tracky bottoms are warm and comfy for the chubbier built lad - he can hardly get one leg into some of the supermarket jeans and while he's bit, he's not THAT big!

Rosebud05 · 08/04/2011 20:57

I had a browse in H & M today and it occurred to me that I am so over girls' clothes (she's 4) and actually, their boys' range is lovely at the moment.

Fourleaf · 08/04/2011 21:02

YADNBU!
I have been having the exact same problem... don't have a lot of money to spend, but the cheaper shops are just full of loud, uncomfy, logo embossed stuff. H&M is very good - great jogging bottoms (which are great for toddlers, I agree entirely) and organic cotton tops. Also (when sales are on) John Lewis. ASDA can be ok if you look carefully.
But my best tip is ebay - then you can get the (usually more expensive) well made, plain stuff for a fraction of the price it'd be new. Charity shops, nearly new sales, freecycle good too.

ceebeegeebies · 08/04/2011 21:03

Yes, H&M do have some lovely clothes (I never look at the girl's clothes as I just start getting wistful Wink) but the boys selection is good - their character stuff is just slightly different from the usual tat and the non-character stuff is lovely too. Reasonable priced too Smile

BornToFolk · 08/04/2011 21:12

I don't get this at all. DS (3) is dressed in mostly slogan and character free clothes (though he does have Ben 10 jeans, thanks to my mum...Hmm) and they are all from the high street and all inexpensive.
I don't find it hard at all to avoid slogans, skulls etc. I know there's a lot of crap around (M&S are getting particularly bad for characters on everything) but it is possible to look past it. Look at these 4 t-shirts for a tenner or this really nice striped hoody
Today he was wearing plain shorts from M&S and a t-shirt from H&M with a monster face. Yesterday, it was a striped long sleeved t-shirt and jogging bottoms from Sainsbos. All cheap and easy to find.

Jogging bottoms are the ideal toddler clothing, IMHO. Comfortable, easy to care for, easy for them to dress themselves - perfect.

CrapBag · 08/04/2011 21:33

YANBU.

I favour the supermarkets and Next, Sainsburys often have some good stuff, but I always find you need to hunt through the shit, like skulls and such. Glad its not just me that loathes that crap. Also bugs me about the very small boys section compared to girls.

beanlet · 08/04/2011 22:57

French baby clothes have the edge..... Jo Jo Maman et Bebe's Breton stripe range is nice; anything by Petit Bateau, preferably in the sale. I also like Boden t-shirts.

Agree that John Lewis own brand is good quality and surprisingly good value - most of DS's new clothes (vs. handmedowns) have come from JL. Have a look at Debenhams too. H&M also good.

Nanny0gg · 08/04/2011 22:58

Pumpkin Patch has some quite nice outfits.

I am constantly extolling the virtues of JL own brand boys clothes. They are lovely quality, wash beautifully and are gorgeous. Everything I have from there is still in good enough condition to put away for another child. And my DS is small, so wears things for a while. They are also not expensive. Really. 7 plain vests for £7. 2 T-shirts for £8.

JojoMamanBebe is also lovely, and although a bit pricey, they often have 10% off days and great sales.

H&M are great when they're good, crap when they're not. I went in a couple of weeks ago and there was nothing, though by the sounds of this thread I need to go back.

Next basics are good, you need to sift through the crap though. Same with Sainsbury's.

Gap has nice stuff, but the sizing can be a bit wierd. DS has a couple of 12-18mo tops which are tiny, and another which is huge. He also goes through the knees of Gap jeans in about 20 seconds, so we're holding off getting those again until he's walking.

blackeyedsusan · 08/04/2011 23:35

I bought lots of lovely shirts and t shirts from Asda. you have to pick and choose, and buy when you see them. I have never had any problem with the quality of clothes bought from there. they do plain trousers and jogging bottoms. howeverr, this year, i like hardly anything for the girls...

next are nice too, but more expensive and we are on a tight budget.

exhausted2011 · 08/04/2011 23:45

i used to buy most of DS's clothes from Gap, I walked in the other day and was so disappointed, so drap, all grey, and khaki.
the girls clothes were so bright in comparison
Do you have a Debenhams, I quite like Rocha john rocha and Bluezoo, quite bright colours, and sales are usually good. I buy stuff a year ahead!
I used to love JL own stuff too, but not been in there for a while

Little Bou Just for boys, a bit pricey, but good in the sales, plus i'd rather have a few lovely bits, than loads of shite.

BigChiefOrganiser · 09/04/2011 00:00
