How much info to give curious 3rd old about babies.

My dd is nearly 4 and has started asking questions about where babies come from. She has a 2yr old brother so knows that babies grow in mummy's tummy. When she recently asked how they get there we told her that daddy put it there. Now she has asked how he puts it there. We are in favour of honesty but not sure how much info is appropriate for her age. She has also just found a tampon and asked me what it's for. Does anyone know of a book I can refer to as and when she asks or any ideas how to word my answers.

Mine also asked the same question, eventually I told them, and they just looked at me in complete disbelief. They've raised the issue since and clearly don't believe my explanation (it did sound a bit daft when I said it out loud).

I would not lie though. And in many countries it's normal to tell the truth, I was given a book by some in-laws which has a cartoon of some animals giving birth, with a full view of the baby coming out!

DD is 3 1/2. I've got away with telling her that babies grow in mummies tummies and when she asked how I said that they just grow like your hair and fingernails. She was asking me about sanitary towels one day and when she came home from nursery she had put folded up toilet paper in her pants because she was a big girl!
