DD (aged 9) is learning to cook (with supervision!!)

She has made her Dad a chilli for his tea (he is at Governors meeting at school).

She forgot/didnt turn the gas ring off. We cleared up and both left the kitchen.

Could smell something weird, went out to find half the chilli stuck to the pan!!!!! Poured the unstuck stuff into a new pan (no burnt bits as far as i can see). And have managed to scrub the pan clean, but the kitchen stinks of burnt food!!!!

Am i being unreasonable to expect him to eat this, and me not say anything???? Have padded it out with a can of baked beans, as it would normally do him today, with a couple for the freezer???

He should it and not make a fuss.

I remember Dad eating something I'd made at a similar age. I tasted it, and wouldn't have any more (it was horrible!). Dad on the other hand ate it and told me how nice it was. (Dad was not known for his tact and diplomacy, hence me remembering it with affection over 30 years later).

JsOtherHalf - that made me smile. I remember making my first cake for my dad - it was a coffee sponge and he ate a massive piece.........then told me it was lovely. My mum was gobsmacked and said i thought you didnt like coffee cake?. I was gutted, but he said he ate because i had made it specially!!!!

It smells vile, but i dont like chilli anyway........

I remember making my Mum breakfast in bed one year for mothering Sunday.

My memory is of her being very pround and happy that I had done this for her.

However, breakfast was...

toast

A "boiled" egg cooked by putting it in (cold) water for 3 minutes,

Mum's response to opening the raw egg was "that is lovely but I'll eat it later".

She only told me I had served her raw egg 20 years later - still makes us both smile so yes, DH should eat it and make the appropriate yummy noises!

He should eat it.
I'm teaching my 9yr old to cook too and she's pretty good.
She can make a few things totally unsupervised.

I fessed up!!!!! And he is eating it anyway 'cos he is starving. He did comment about how it came to get left on the stove, but i swallowed the blame. After all, i should have checked......I was the supervisor.

He is saying it tastes ok Wink....
