to think that my sister should not go to work on the day before a major op?

My sis is going into hosp first thing on tues morning for a major operation. I think she is absolutely mental to be going in to work the day before, surely she should just take a day to get herself ready for this. She says she has tons to do and I'm sure she'll probably end up working late in order to get it all done.
I'm worried about her.

YABU in that there is no real reason not to work the day before, and keeping busy is generally the way to go as far as taking your mind off things is concerned.

But YANBU to be concerned - if she does tends to over work and get stressed about her work, there is a chance she will try to do too much before she is fully recovered from her op. So I would definitely watch out for that and be pretty firm with her (and her DH - he needs to help out a lot), or she will end up not recovering properly.

But maybe the enforced recuperation time will give her time to unwind a little bit, and realise the world wont stop if she doesn't do everything?

I wish her well for her op. and you sound like a very caring sister. Smile

YTABU but I understand.
My last major operation was a few years ago and I was in hysterics thinking about it.
I went to work to be with my colleagues, do my job, and talk about other things other than me and how I was feeling.
It helped.
Maybe your sister is like this?

Yabu a bit, sometimes work helps takes ones mind off things, I got a pretty nasty diagnosis for my DD this morning and am just off to work as it will help me to think about something else.

kurrikurri I hope you are right that by having to have this time off she will realise that she isn't responsible for EVERYTHING at work and other people will step in to do things.
She has just emailed me and said they have an HM inspection team coming tomorrow though, so I know that'll send her whole school into a massive spin- it'll certainly take her mind off the op, but praps not in a good way!
