To expect my year 1 ds's full annual report to actually be personalised and about him????

Except for English and maths which does state his achievements and struggles and his personal to him and about his progress.Other subjects which are headed as Art, Drama and Music, Science and DT & ICT, History Geography, RE and finally Games, PE, PSHE, are not personlised to my son and it seems to be a standard report of what they have been doing as a year.In fact its been the same report for every child.

Although they have graded his effort and achievement which are below average (my son has a procesing delay) it does not once mention if he enjoys these areas or where he struggles or what he knows about these areas or how he can improve. It seems the whole emphasis of the report has been about his progress in maths and english. My son is struggling in school and so having really negative grades and no comments in areas I know he enjoys like art is really unhelpful.it would be nice to read that ds enjoys this area or is very creative or is interested or in sciene or finds this subject challenging because etc...

YABU thats a bog standard report and there should be a personalised element to it. Go and speak to the teacher in person if you have any concerns about his education rather than expect it to be all written down in a concise piece of paper when the teacher has 29 other reports to write :)

Anyway.

Go talk to his teacher.

YANBU. DD1's report came on Friday. It mentions 3 times how great she is at mentoring. She doesn't do mentoring ffs.

Did you have a parents evening? That's usually where you get some pesonal remrks...but they could have put a general comment in the report. My DD has a bit at the back where they speak of her in general terms...what she enjoys and doesn't..and how she is doing....she's year 2.

YANBU. That's not a report, it's a newsletter and a list of grades presented on the same piece(s) of paper. if teachers don't have time to write individual reports, fine; but don't write 'Report' on the cover of a newsletter instead.

I understand this but i do think if they grade them it can be quite worrying if theres not comment to explain why they are at that level or how we can help. They have commented about him for his maths and english but nothing else. And having seen a friends report at a different school where each area did have a personal comment and i mean just a few lines it did make me think our school would do the same.

Just before christmas they sent us a mid-report and it literally was just grades and no comments or references of the targets. I was abviously distraught to see my son was achieving 4 below average and no explaination. So i did go and see them and they did explain he was making progress but obviously it caused me alot of anxiety and stress whilst waiting for an appointment.

I don't understand why you've got a 'full annual report' with a term still to go anyway. How can it be full and annual when we are onlt two thirds of the way through the academic year?

NotInTheMood · 02/04/2011 21:09

parets eveing is not until july so im obviously worried about the long wait.

You can make an appointment to chat you know....just ask....they'll understand!

A report in April? What about the next few months? Go and talk to his teacher and tell him your concerns.
