To think that it might be simpler to be constantly pregnant than have periods?

Feeling rubbish with stomach cramps today, thinking it might be less painfully to have labour every 9 months than this pain every month.

The new baby to deal with every 9 months might complicate things, but it still might be worth it to avoid this pain... :(

Sorry you are in pain, get yourself a hot water bottle and lie on the sofa, it does help, or have a nice hot bath. Period pain is not unlike being in labour when it is bad.

You could take the pill continuous without a 7 day break to stop periods.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 02/04/2011 17:21

:( Have you talked to your GP? There might be an underlying reason for why you're in so much pain.

I'm taking it you have easy pregnancies....

cherrychoo · 02/04/2011 17:22

yabu
take painkillers.
ttc for years....i wish, just the one would be nice. Sad

cherrychoo · 02/04/2011 17:22

ps have you treid feminax, they are really good i find.

CaveMum · 02/04/2011 17:23

DH's great-grandmother must have felt the same - she married at 24 and had 16 children over the following 22 years. 15 of them survived infancy but she died a few months after giving birth to the 16th Shock

Butternutsquash22 · 02/04/2011 17:32

I'm sorry cherrychoo, didn't mean to be insensitive, just having a self-indulgent rant.

Is it not bad to not take the 7 day break? This is my first period since coming off the implant onto the pill, and would love to just skip the 7 day gap but am too scared in case it's doing harm?

(and I might be flamed for saying this but I've never actually been pregnant, no experience of labour, just feeling grumpy and miserable...)

Have you had any dcs? I have just had my first and I am not looking forward to getting my periods back as I have such incapacitating awful pain that I really think I will struggle to look afer DD! hence I'm going to keep up the bfing! I was hoping the pains might get better as I'm sure I read somewhere that they can ease after having dcs, but sounds like it hasn't worked for you...

My Grandma was the same CaveMum. She had 6 kids and said she would rather be pg and bfing all the time than have periods as her pains were so bad. She also said that being in labour was no worse than a bad period. I wouldn't know as I had an ELCS so didn't even have a contraction!

You have by sympathies. Sad I find that copious amounts of chocolate works wonders! Grinx

architien · 02/04/2011 17:33

There could be a solution to the pain. After checking with GP for more serious concerns I would look into alternative solutions. I read about Mayan Abdominal Massage techniques which can be used to help physically move a womb which might be sitting in an unbalanced way, which will naturally cause pain and unusual bleeding. My thoughts on the article were that if it worked great but if it didn't the worse case would be that I had treated myself to a massage. Worth a try I think.

MsScarlett · 02/04/2011 17:36

Sorry didn't read last post! FWIW I am a med student and did a research project on long term contraception as a means to induce amenorrhea (no periods) in people with problem periods. The 7 day break when taking the pill is completely unnecessary and was only put in because apparently women "like" to have a period once a month! You can tell the pill was developed by men...

CaveMum · 02/04/2011 17:37

OP I think Drs say that as long as you bleed 3-4 times a year it won't do you any harm. When I was on the Pill I frequently took one pack after another if I had something going on (party, holiday, etc) and I didn't want my period to disrupt it.
Been off the Pill 10 months now (trying to conceive) and only had 1 period - turns out I have PCOS! trying to get that fixed now, I must be the only woman wishing for her period Grin

DilysPrice · 02/04/2011 17:38

Pretty sure that there's no good reason not to take the pill continuously, it's just the way it's always been - if you do a bit of research I think that's what you'll find. You can do a pg test once a month instead.

blighter · 02/04/2011 17:40

cherrychoo - your note touched a nerve, all the best to you (i have had secondary infertility for 7 years but given up now as far too old, don't give up, have known many people to have success suddenly over the years of ttc, all the best

cherrychoo · 02/04/2011 17:58

How old are you blighter?

HHLimbo · 02/04/2011 19:04

OP you need to get massages :)

Also chocolate.

But please do check with your GP to rule out any underlying problem.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 02/04/2011 19:06

I managed to hurt my leg while TTC and it turned into SPD as soon as I concieved. So while I appreciate how painful periods can be I'd rather have that a few days a week, over 9 months of fanjo pain any day!

Hope you feel better soon though.

blighter · 04/04/2011 18:00

hi cherrychoo - just seen your note, i am 46, 47 end of year, at a total guess i am a fair bit older than you. even at my ripe old age there are always pre menopause miracles as the ovaries can make a last attempt push, older women who get pg are often with twins too although a larger part of me doesn't want anther child which is really weird having tried desperately for nearly years, but the small part would be absolutely overjoyed. i have been surrounded by people i know who achieved pregnancies in their early to mid 40's with no treatments, one of which has pcos, you just never know and as far as i am concerned, if you have a uterus and working ovary(ies) there is always a chance, if not, egg donation although dh wouldn't go down that path, i would have but i let it lie..... (i did rounds of clomid and a few iui's medicated, plus loads of acu, herbal crap etc). best of luck

cherrychoo · 04/04/2011 22:16

ahh blighter, its a shit isnt it. sorry.
Im nearly 41 and should probably stop, but as you say, i have friends who have concieved in their early 40's so while i know that it can be done, im not giving up hope.
x

AuntiePickleBottom · 04/04/2011 22:21

i hate period pains and gets them every month, maimly in my back and hips but also in my stomach.

never thought of going to the doctors about it, just keep popping the pills

BeingHumum · 04/04/2011 23:01

I feel your pain, I am going for an ultrasound next week as mine are so awful. I think it's just bad luck though, had it for years. I pass out in bed for 3 days, and even overdosing on Mefenamic Acid (prescription, worth a try used to work for me) and Cocodamol doesn't make a sod's bit of difference Angry.

Thanks Scarlett for the tip about it being OK to keep taking the pill, this may be my next move. Wouldn't choose pregnancy either though, vomit for 6 months which is worse!

DreamsInBinary · 04/04/2011 23:08

Try the mirena coil - not for everyone but I rave about mine. No need to think about contraception and totally period-free after a couple of months.

vintageteacups · 04/04/2011 23:08

It could be after coming off the implant Butternut.

Yes, it's prefectly fine to be on the pill with no 7 day gap for a long time. Think most GPs recommend a break after 3/4 months but you should pop in and ask if you can.

Other than that, you could get some magnesium supplement - might help reduce flow and/or pain.

Might you have fibroids? Do you get bad ovulation pain as well?

I have a 3 weekly period since having the DCs (nightmare). There are no plus points, except there's more chance of you getting pregnant I think (not that that matters now I've stopped!).

So period lasts a week, then I ovulate a couple of days afterwards where it feels like my uterous is going to fall out, then I get the munchies before starting all over again. With dh working away all week, there's very little opportunity for sex and most of time I'm worrying about the next period! Who'd be a woman hey - these boys get it so easy Hmm

vintageteacups · 04/04/2011 23:10

Mefanamic acid (I believe) though does cause the blood to clot in order to reduce flow so for me, who needs to lose a couple of stone, didn't want the DVT risk - the doctor just prescribed without a blink - never weighed me or anything. So I didn't take them.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 04/04/2011 23:19

Butternut if you haven't been on the pill before you might find it helps (eventually). I used to get really bad cramps - would have to go home and lie down with hot-water bottle all day, and drugs didn't touch it. But after starting the pill they gradually got hugely better and (bonus) the effect lasted even when I stopped taking it, I have never had them so badly again since!
