surely the only veg. to accompany chicken kiev is sweetcorn. Please back me up before DH destroys the lovely kiev's I've been yearning for all day.

Kievs are best with rice or mashed potatoes, IMO.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 01/04/2011 17:39

Sweetcorn, broccoli, green beans at a stretch.

If he means baked beans he is so very wrong.

valiumredhead · 01/04/2011 17:39

Broccolli in this house or sugar snap peas, petis pois NEVER sweetcorn!

microfight · 01/04/2011 17:39

what type of beans, borlotti, kidney, butter beans......you surely don't mean Heinz baked do you. Tomato sauce with garlic butter yuk!

moogster1a · 01/04/2011 17:39

he does mean baked beans

Wouldn't have beans.

But wouldn't have sweetcorn.

Green veg, perhaps salad.

Probably chips.

And I don't like beans with fried eggs, or anything tomatoey.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 01/04/2011 17:40

We have sweetcorn and broccoli [smug]

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 01/04/2011 17:41

Divorce re-educate him.

NimpyWindowmash · 01/04/2011 17:43

YABU - beans are fine, as are peas and cheesy pasta

houseworkwhore · 01/04/2011 17:44

sweetcorn only... never beans the tomatoe juice getting into the lovely garlicy juice would destroy it

moogster1a · 01/04/2011 17:44

cheesy pasta sunds quite good with kievs. Never thought of that.
I'm waiting with bated breath to see if they survived cooking without bursting!

good heavens, it has to be something green and some buttery noodles

NettoSuperstar · 01/04/2011 17:46

I'd have green veg or salad.
No carbs because of the breadcrumbs.

Beans mixing with garlic butter gives me the boak.

I do like beans, but only when they won't mix with other sauces.

Bunbaker · 01/04/2011 17:46

I would do salad or some green vegetables like broccoli, sugar snap peas, green beans etc, but not sweetcorn as no-one really likes it as a veg in our house anyway..

Two sauces merging on one plate? No thanks. Chips and peas for me, please.

rookiemater · 01/04/2011 17:49

Beans are revolting and should not be served with anything.

Tillyscoutsmum · 01/04/2011 17:51

DH would have baked beans with anything. If, for example, I suggest peas and onion gravy with sausage and mash, he looks at me as if I am insane. Only baked beans with sausage & mash Hmm He would definitely go for beans with kievs. But I accept he is a freak minority

Tillyscoutsmum · 01/04/2011 17:52

You could have them in a ramekin to avoid sauce mix up Wink

LucretiaInShadows · 01/04/2011 17:53

Peas, sweetcorn and mash here - herby mash if I can be bothered. Green beans would be an adequate pea substitute. Baked beans would just be wrong and out of place.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 01/04/2011 17:54

Uuuuurgh

FanillaFudge · 01/04/2011 17:59

DH would have beans. I think it's gross... but then they are nice with the breaded chicken bit!

3rdnparty · 01/04/2011 18:00

yuk yuk yuk....baked beans no way- green beans fav here with chicken kiev....must go get some haven't had for ages Grinor something else green also would be chips or baked potato ...

NettoSuperstar · 01/04/2011 18:02

Beans near mash is horrible, ditto eggs.

I do like them on toast, and with fishfingers and chips, but that's about it.

DD hates them so she gets spaghetti.

SardineQueen · 01/04/2011 18:09

Kievs should be eaten with mash and non-saucy veg. Any veg I think, but it mustn't have a sauce. Unless the garlic butter has all leaked out of the kiev and burnt away in which case melting a bit of butter on the veg is acceptable.

Baked beans = WRONG WRONG WRONG
