Or campaign for change within your own area.

Sorry this really does sound like scots bashing....it is certainly not the fault of the Scottish people that this has happened. Why can't everyone just be appalled at the powers that be, rather that Scottish, Welsh and NI people?

Also, it is worth remembering the country is currently ruled by a government that neither the Scots, Welsh or NI actually voted in. This is a left policy. If we want it, we have to vote left (as they did).

Agreed that it is not all equal, but that doesn't give me the right to take it up with Joe McLean in Glasgow does it? (And I know....if I think the bashing here is bad, I should see the Daily Mail!) :)

Jimper I saw the Wail and their 'effectively paying' description. It's totally inflammatory, shame some people agree with it.

"isn't council tax much cheaper in England, haven't property owners made thousands more down south, pay is higher in SE, in London kids get free travel"

Council tax is actually cheaper in Scotland than England apart from a couple of areas where conservatives have withdrawn most of teh local services e.g. Westminster council.

In some parts of the country some property owners have made money from property prices - just like in Edinburgh. But lots of parts of England are really poor and houses are relatively cheap. Pay is higher in some parts of England and lower than in some parts of Scotland.

But it isn't really this that people are complaining about. They are complaining because Scotland, Wales and NI get more money proportionally thatn England to provide services for no good current reason - it si a historical anomaly.

I don't understand why some posters can't see that that would annoy people in England.

Can that truly be backed up though or is it a round about argument where we say fine, give us the oil money we were due that suppressed and we'll go independent etc etc.

Be annoyed all you want but be annoyed at the Government not us! And DO something about it.

MollysChambers · 01/04/2011 13:43

monkey I agree that people with long term conditions that need continuous medication should have free prescriptions. Absolutely.

Was shocked to find out that a colleague with severe asthma had to pay for prescriptions. This was in Scotland, around 10 years ago. Obviously government policy has changed and she will now get them free.

The Scottish government has the power to make these changes. The Westminster government can do this in England. Write to your MP.

BTW to anyone moaning about having to pay for prescriptions that voted Tory - zero sympathy. WTF did you expect??

DoingTheBestICan · 01/04/2011 13:49

I believe waiting lists are much shorter in England then in Wales,i know which i would prefer personally.

Also i remember a few yrs back the council tax in Wales was re-banded so what we actually pay is more in line with house prices now, ours went up significantly,i also believe that this was not the case in England, where your council tax system was left alone on the old way?

I say all this as someone who hasnt had a prescriptionj since 2006 & that was for gaviscon whilst preg.

AitchTwoOh · 01/04/2011 14:13

it's only the tiresome 'wha's like us' rhetoric that keeps me from voting SNP tbh. i would love to get my hands on that oil money...

i always remember speaking to an ex-ambassador and he was very surprised that we had never gone it alone. cultural cringe, i assume. he said he had been a diplomat in smaller countries with a less clear tourist 'brand' and fewer natural resources and they were doing okay.

MollysChambers · 01/04/2011 14:21

Wha's like us?
Damn few
And they're a' deid! Wink
