How am I meant to know? It's not like I can compare mooncups with anyone! (not that I use them but you know wha I mean)

I THINK mine are heavy...I bleed for about 5 dys and it's horrid. Been d since having kids...they were ok before. Now I can FEEL it flowing out of me...and the "flowing" goes on for what feels an unreasonable amount of time [bleugh]

I have to change pads about hourly....or more often.

I all this normal?

My periods only last 2 maybe 3 days at a push , so not sure if Im really heavy or it all just happening at once. The second day I have to change every 20-30mins, if I dont I just flood every where. It just seems to be pouring out and I have huge huge clots, its quite scarey. It doesnt happen every month more like every second month. The hospital has put me on two tablets traneximic acid and mefanimic acid (not sure if spelt right) that really work and also very good for the pain. I only need to take them when heavy. Before the tablets it meant I could not leave the house when heavy and would have to call in sick for work. The only downside to the tablets is it makes my periods longer 6-7 days and although I hate being that heavy I have got quite use to short periods. So often if it happens on a weekend and I have no major plans I dont take them, just relax and lie on a towel all day (and lots of trips to the loo). At least that way I know af would be more a less all over by monday

Thank you flaminggreatgallah for the links. I have every single symptom on the list!

myfriendflicka · 03/04/2011 12:07

Can I back up what FGG said? I also have mild von willebrands. I was diagnosed in my late 30s (most people are, nobody knows about it, even though it is common!). Before that I had accepted bleeding fulsomely and frighteningly after operations/teeth out etc. Men get it too but because women have periods and childbirth, it has more of a day to day impact. It is worth being tested and getting access to transexamic acid and something called DDAVP to allieviate heavy bleeding.
Also you can pass it on to your children, my daughter has it, my son doesn't (one in two chance). If you know you can help them too.

My bloody moon cup run'th over. This is after about 10-15 mins for about three days so god only knows what my blood loss is. When i remove itits like a scene from carrie ...could not be done inpublic toilet! Would love to be like women on embarrassing bodies my anemia is so bad I have blood transfusions and I am going in for surgery next week . I am so scared I have about 15 polyps they can see with hysteroscope and they want to fit a coil YUCK . I have been like this since they started so about 30 years. Had 5 dc so on the plus side didn't affect my fertility . Anyone else like this ??

Baffledandbewildered · 04/04/2011 14:02

Anyone

Asinine · 04/04/2011 14:28

I use two tampons at a time too, plus night time pads by day and night, if not I'd have to stand on my head for a week. Was considering a mooncup, but was worried it might be for 'normal' periods only.

Asinine · 04/04/2011 14:29

BandB
Hope your surgery goes ok

confuddledDOTcom · 04/04/2011 15:45

Asinine, I was losing 100ml a day at one point, tampons were soaked through and my clothes covered in an hour. I had to empty my mooncup about every two hours but it coped better than tampons.

Asinine · 04/04/2011 15:57

Have ordered one- there's only one way to find out if it's for me

orangehead · 04/04/2011 17:33

When I used my mooncup but put a towel on as a backup but never got more than spotting on the towel. I needto get a new one, I dropped it down the toilet and it vanished Blush

confuddledDOTcom · 04/04/2011 22:32

Blush orangehead, I'm terrible for that! I've always managed to get it back though (and obviously cleaned it properly before reusing!)

With apologies for rehashing an old thread but I am due at my Drs on Tuesday with a 6 month diary of my periods which have been awful.

She is going to talk to me about having a coil fitted which I am really not confident about having. In fact, I don't want one. I've researched and talked about it for 6 months and my answer is no.

I am wanting to ask about an endometrial ablation but I don't know if they will insit on a trial with the coil first. Can they insist?

Baffledandbewildered · 20/08/2011 19:26

No they can't insist but they do seem to be loathed to do ablations.I had a coil fitted about three months ago not my choice but after hospital stays and blood transfusions due to anemia because of heavy flow. I gave in and had it fitted no heavy periods but losing blood most days. I was hell to live with for first six weeks and would have pulled it out but I'm a coward..... Feel better now ! They may sugest hormone tablets these didn't work for me good luck hope you can find a solution you are comfortable with

Just bought transamic acid as mefanic acid isent working? I said I think I'm in perimenapause but docs said I'm too young? Urm hello I'm 44 so frustrated

ToffeePennie · 08/03/2019 14:50

I have a heavy period according to the gp. I don’t have any medical reason for it but I can easily change a nighttime pad every hour, it lasts for 10 days and I only get 14 days off every time.
When mine starts it’s there, I literally feel it flowing out of me and there are a lot of clots, no simple bit of spotting for me!
It’s that’s heavy I use maternity pads at nighttime.
It’s horrible but I have learned to cope.

Amberlee1803 · 08/03/2019 16:03

It's horrendous and limits what I'm wanting to do for fear of flooding Shock
