I don't at all.

However, I'm not out for a bunfight!

Just curious, as was surprised by the response of a certain group to this question today.

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 31/03/2011 21:14

I've found it effective with babies.

I personally think it works best on people with fewer toxins in their bodies. this is just my personal theory, though.

I do believe it can't do any harm.

HecateTheCrone · 31/03/2011 21:15

disease as a disturbance in your life force?

no, not really.

Wigeon · 31/03/2011 21:15

No. It's made of water.

BertieBotts · 31/03/2011 21:15

Most people don't on here. Threads mentioning homeopathy usually get short shrift Grin

Unless talking about teething powders, for some reason.

Maternelle · 31/03/2011 21:15

No. It's based on the placebo effect.

mumtoted · 31/03/2011 21:17

Definitely yes.

blueemerald · 31/03/2011 21:17

I believe the placebo effect can be incredibly... efffective if you're stressed or not sleeping very well etc but beyond that no, no and no again.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 31/03/2011 21:17

Are we accepting this as a definition of homeopathy:

'Homeopathy (also spelled homoeopathy or hom?opathy) is a form of alternative medicine in which practitioners treat patients using highly diluted preparations that are believed to cause healthy people to exhibit symptoms that are similar to those exhibited by the patient. The collective weight of scientific evidence has found homeopathy to be no more effective than a placebo'

Grin from Wiki

ethelina · 31/03/2011 21:17

Its distilled to the point of pretty much none of the vital ingredient being in it so no.

doley · 31/03/2011 21:18

The Royal family do Grin

I have used it with good results ...

My sister is studying to be a Homeopath ~I have learnt a lot recently :)

I personally believe it has a place in conjunction with traditional medicine ,I think most homeopaths would agree ??

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 31/03/2011 21:20

If so, no. I don't believe in it. The placebo effect is proven as with sugar pills.

blueemerald · 31/03/2011 21:20

I watched this program with a deaf student I work with who doing a biology report on Homeopathy and it was very interesting (and entertaining). Really solidified my views.

InspirationalBreadbin · 31/03/2011 21:21

Ha ha ha.

No.

It's water.

But the placebo effect can be powerful, so I can understand why people can convince themselves it works. Its self-delusion, but if people want to hand over cash for water and it makes them feel better then that's up to them. A fool and their money are easily parted!

HelenBaaBaaBlackSheep · 31/03/2011 21:21

No, and the placebo effect is actually far more interesting than the homeopathy tales.

Heebiejeebie · 31/03/2011 21:22

Of course homeopaths would agree it has a place. I also think it has a place, next to snake oil and bunkum.

itsatiggerday · 31/03/2011 21:22

I believe herbal medicines can be very effective but should be properly regulated, eg St Johns Wort can be dangerous when interacting with some pharmaceutical drugs.

I think homeopathy is a load of expensive water or sugar pills.

Placebo effect is tested and proven, homeopathy won't submit to such scrutiny, IME only con artists don't want you to check out their claims.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 31/03/2011 21:23

those with any sense don't. If I wanted to see the magical properties of sugar and water I'd drink a COKE.

tethersend · 31/03/2011 21:23

I believe it exists.

i don't believe it works.

In much the same way I believe in the existence of dogs, but not that they can cure cancer.

No, I don't believe in homeopathy. I do believe in the placebo effect, though. Which as a previous poster said is way more interesting and raises some huge ethical issues for doctors.

I think a lot depends what you are trying to achieve. I went to a homeopath for the treatment of depression. It worked really well as the lady was a retired CPN, however I doult the remedies she precribed me did anything.

Her councelling skills were outstanding though.

Heebiejeebie · 31/03/2011 21:27

Why does daisy love metronidazole? Does she have bacterial vaginosis, or is she trying to kick the booze?

AnyoneforTurps · 31/03/2011 21:27

Homeopathy in action

Asinine · 31/03/2011 21:29

Yes, but only because placebo effect is very strong.
