To think it is bad manners to expect to sit in the same seat / occupy the same place every time

.....just because 'I always sit here'

I'm not talking about when people have clearly designated work desks but things like conferences where we had all paid the same money (for like 3 days) but the selfish people always expected to sit at the front even though they arrived later the next day.

I think that, broadly speaking first come, first served should apply in these situations. It annoys me when people get huffy about it like they own the space.

Hi silverfrog - it was Vince Carbone - long time ago - about 5 years ago! I don't mind if people sit on the same seat but object to someone who sits in a prime position one day and then expects to have the right to sit there the next day when they didn't get there first! (actually I was particularly annoyed that the seat hoggers were people from local authorities who had come to find more reasons not to like ABA but that's another story!) lol it's not just the conference though - I've noticed it in loads of situations and I find people who do this incredibly arrogant and self-important. After all you can't 'own' car parking spaces at Tescos can you? Grin

I went on holiday a few months ago and stayed at a very small, family run resort. There was a lovely pool with six sunbeds and three umbrellas in total.

There was a couple who paid the pool guy to make up 'their' sunbeds (in the best spot) very early every morning using two of the umbrellas. They would then lay in bed till 11am everyday, walk past the beds and cover it with books etc., go up the beach to have brunch somewhere else (!) and finally make it to the sunbeds early afternoon where they would lay for an hour or two before they would go back to their room for an afternoon sleep.

This went on for nearly a week. One morning a new couple arrived who didn't know 'the rules' sat on the beds and all hell broke loose. They actually started yelling at this poor couple FFS...
